I've been having a little fun lately, I finished "these" yesterday. How do you turn 6 mallards into 6 hens and 6 drakes.

All~ This will be a LONG post - spurred by a recent need to modify a Spray Shield from a South Bay Duckboat. Following is the "back story" - Part 1 - with a bit of history and - of course - terminology. Duck hunters on our larger waters have always needed to think about spray - and keeping it out of the cockpit and off the helmsman. The best example from along the Atlantic Tidewater is, of course, the Barnegat Bay Sneakbox. As shown by Howard Chapelle (Smithsonian Institution)... Read more

I know there are much better camo solutions than raffia. I have used it and while if works, it has drawbacks. this year, I do not need to cover my entire boat but more to add some color to certain areas. I don't need 50 lbs and the synthetic materials are pricey. Since my wife is an avi crating person, she saw a raffia table skirt at Hobby Lobby. 9' X 30"'s for $9.00. Went to Hobby Lobby (not for he faint of heart) and found the item. Brought it home and I think for what I need... Read more

All~ As many of you have probably concluded over the years, my consuming passion for gunning vessels includes almost NO knowledge of contemporary factory craft. Thus, I have no idea who may have built - or is building - the sweet little duckboat below. She’s 10 feet long, about 33 inches wide, flat bottomed with a 3.5-inch wide, full length keel. Her cockpit is 5 feet long and 22 inches wide. Bilge to deck is about 10 inches, and her raised coaming comes up about 3 or 4 inches... Read more

I finally had an opportunity to get my new to me kayak on the water today. I've had several kayaks over the years but all have been recreational plastic kayaks. I've never been able to afford a premium boat other than a Wilderness Commander that was at the high end of what I thought a plastic rotomolded kayak should bring. I bought that one while living in Florida and sold it before leaving. Now with that said, wow is this kayak something else. At 45 lbs this thing just glides across the... Read more

So I’m working on my motor board for the long shaft motor I’m installing. I’m waiting for the epoxy resin to arrive to seal the motor board. What is a good way to get the 5200 waterproof sealant in the bolt holes to ensure a complete seal? Is running the outboard on the 90 degree motor board okay or should I put the angled bracket back on to get the motor some setback? I cut the motor board to 20.25” in length. That put the cavitation plate right at the bottom of the boat. The water intake... Read more
