I’ve never heard of that. If had to posit a theory I was say that if you’re in a foreign country(?) different spices and ingredients might affect you in that way. And I think people in other countries focus more on fresh, healthy foods and sit and savor their meals and prepare them with care whereas we Americans tend to rush through meals that may have been frozen and have a lot of chemical additives. Maybe the whole process is slower elsewhere although in this case not in a good way.

Bailey’s World: Learning about Type 1 diabetes By: Beth Pruitt available on Amazon. My daughter and I wrote this book to bring awareness to her classmates since she just started Kindergarten. She has always felt “different” since she was diagnosed at the age of 2. This book was created from that same love and passion to help children and families better understand Type 1 diabetes, spread awareness, encourage kindness, and help kids like Bailey feel seen, understood, included, and most importantly… just like every other kid. I hope that you are able to read it and feel the love that Bailey and I poured into it.
Hey friend I took have never heard of “vacation gastroparisis” haha no offense haha but that sounds funny, vacation as not watching what we eat. So back in 2016 I was diagnosed with diabetic gastroparisis I had to eat a radioactive egg and go back to office to get images of where the egg was in my digestive tract. I have type 1 and did a horrendously crappy job at monitoring it. Also I NEVER heard of such a thing, I was always threatened with you will go blind and you will have an amputation. There is no b.s. if you have it you need to watch what you eat the end. If I didn’t love meat I would be a vegetarian honestly hahaha however that is also bad for gastroparisis because fiber is incredibly difficult to break down for us it actually can turn into bezors I think is how you spell it. My best advice is to see a registered dietician with your endo. Here is why I didn’t and I ended up throwing up for multiple years multiple times a day and it ended up cause me to get copd, because I was aspirating food and acid which scarred my lungs and sent me on a irriversible course of self induced B.S. type 1 diabetes is no joke so please please please go and see a registered nutritionist, best of luck friend.
Hi Dorie @wadawabbit ! I use pens for my insulin and my nurse practitioner (also a type 1). Writes my prescription for a little more than I need on a daily basis. This covers me when I have days when I use a lot more insulin (sick days, or high carb/fat meals) and when there is an issue shipping my insulin to me. I always have a couple of months of extra insulin. It has saved me when the price of my insulin skyrocketed or when I am pulling my hair out with the pharmaceutical company because my insulin should have been shipped, but the wires got crossed in the computer. I was able to cover my needs during these times without freaking out.
Hello all! My name is Jack Garrison and I’m a data science student at Purdue University. I’ve also been a Type I Diabetic since I was 14! I’m reaching out because I am in a class at Purdue called Human-Computer Interaction where we are designing/improving an app for better user experience and creating a mockup for it. My group’s focus is redesigning the Omnipod 5 insulin pump app to give the user more control over certain things. As part of our research, we have to conduct interviews with 10 potential users. I wanted to reach out and extend this offer to everyone here! We are targeting individuals who use the Omnipod 5 app with a glucose monitor of any kind. This is, of course, a completely optional study, and we would just gather thoughts and experiences surrounding the Omnipod, its phone app, life with diabetes, and improvements we were considering. These interviews would take place at some time during this week. If this is something that you’re interested in, please fill out the form below. A team member will get with you and set up an interview. Thank you very much! docs.google.com Purdue University Omnipod 5 Interviews This Form is private
I hope you will love it! Since I was simply switching pumps I did my training via Zoom and as far as functionality it consisted of showing me how to set the date and time and enter my weight and that was about it! No basal rates or carb ratios to program. It will take a few days for the pump to learn your body’s patterns and what count as average meals, and you might experience some highs and lows in the process. It works beautifully once everything is figured out. I’m not going to say it’s perfect but I find if I experience lows now it’s because I announced a meal incorrectly. As I mentioned above there is an option to change your target but if you’re going to consider doing that talk with your trainer first - or your doctor if they’ve gone through training.
To add a “little more fin” to the DME thing, UHC has added a new cost center. it applies to my Medicare Advantage Plan - I don’t know if Synapse has been added to other UHC plans. Bottom line first, the refill of G7 sensors initially placed on August 16, 2026 arrived on September 18, 2026 and the infusion sets ordered August 23m 2026 also arrived September 18th in the large box with the G7, but I was shorted one month’s supply. Filling in the blanks. For more than 9 years I’ve ordered my CGM and later my Tandem stuff through Byram without any difficulty; refills just by responding “1” to autofill text messages. Now, after account setup with Synapse Health [the UHC subcompany with order-takers in Phillipe Islands], orders are placed by phone with Synapse which then transmits the order to Byram for fulfillment and Byram shipped directly to me by FedEx without me knowing when or how - oh, a whole new account number was established for me with an email address @byramhealth.com that I cannot modify. Another interesting part, Synapse wanted my physician to issue a new Tandem t-Slim pump prescription [invoice $8,541.67] and a prescription for a G7 receiver - of course most everyone, except Synapse, knows that a Dexcom receiver will not operate if a Tandem pump interfaces with a Dexcom. I was able to review my order, before fulfillment, on-line at Synapse and to write thin in the most positive manner possible, one (1) of the four (4) order lines [products] was correct. Medicare open
My doctor writes my prescription order Take ## units daily visa insulin pump . I’ve never been asked by a pharmacist how much I take.
DBrim: Pump supplies: These are always DME (medical benefit) " 'tis impossible to be sure of any thing but Death and Taxes. " One of the unmentionable side effects of T1D is the headaches from dealing with health plans. I hear pharmacists suffer from this too. Pumps and pump supplies used to be covered under your medical plan’s DME benefit but something is pushing pump companies and health plans to use the pharmacy channel just like we’re seeing with CGMs. I think the better way of helping people with this is to suggest they check both their medical plan and pharmacy benefits formulary. And then keep checking every open enrollment to see what is changing. FYI Medicare Part B will cover a CGM for anyone who is insulin treated, no daily requirement. L33822 CGMs are one of those things that are broadly clinically supported and profitable. Question for you: I’ve run into occasionally being asked “How much insulin do you take” Saying I’m type 1 diabetic, I follow the instructions on the prescription, I calculate every dose, etc, results in the question being repeated. Can you suggest a good way to respond? I get the cpht’s are just trying to do days supply math, but nurses and pharmacists have me stumped and I want to be helpful. Diabetes can’t be the only disease requiring a prescription for a supply of medication and the patient has to calculate their own doses, right?
Thank you! Yesterday it finally got 100% signatures by my doctor. It ships out today then I wait for the training….
I don’t use the ilet but I heard big news from Beta Bionics, hope you don’t mind me chiming in… Eversense 365 CGM integration expected by the end of 2026 Press Release Mint patch pump receives FDA approval, expected early 2027 Press Release that second link also mentions an updated algorithm
Thanks for the write up @DBrim but in this mixed up world I get all pump supplies through pharmacy, so “Pump supplies” can actually be either. It’s the inconsistencies that makes navigating the insurance world so difficult. Cheers
