Great technique as we all know. I've never been able to play a F# note/chord on the second bar of the A music to create that lovely descending bass.

You could experiment with box position, maybe try to angle the grille towards your 'yed?!

You might struggle until you get your ear in, but the others should hear it well enough. It gets easier with practice. I also keep a brimmed hat in the back of my rucksack, and if a pub's ridiculously noisy I'll put it on. It's remarkably effective.
