What USB Wlan interface do you recommend 2026?

Can someone recommend a Wlan USB Stick that works good with FreeBSD 14? g / n? The one I am using, Ralink, behaves unreliable with the new AP (Router). Note that the chipset is the important part, devices with the same model may have different chipset, the call it "version". (totally different contents in the same package sold as the same thing).

Having the core dumps in one place.

Hi guys, I have this fixation to have my "graphic design shop" based on FreeBSD. I understand someone might think that I am crazy, but I'd like to do it not matter what. Now the majority of the Open Source Design software (Gimp, Inkscape, Scribus, etc...) constantly leave huge core dump. This is not very encouraging however the problem is not the dumps themselves, but that are scattered all over the place on my working directories. Is there a knob to force these dumps to be saved in one place, although I think I had better to stop creating them because tends to be huge, once I found one of 26GB... Thanks...

pkill kills processes by arguments

even when called without the -f switch. Same for pgrep . 'pkill firefox' kills all python processes that have firefox in the argument list as part of a path. Why? ... an effect of python called by a shell script with arguments? ... correction: pgrep does not list it, but pkill kills it. (Reinstalled from source minutes ago FreeBSD 15.1-STABLE stable/15-n285467-3d961305e170 GENERIC amd64)

ThinkPad E16 Gen 3: reboot and poweroff hang with USB-C connected

Hi, I am experiencing intermittent reboot and poweroff hangs on my Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 3. My tests now point to an attached USB-C cable as the trigger. Environment: Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 3, machine type 21TF BIOS: R2YET22W (1.11), dated February 26, 2026 Embedded Controller firmware: 1.11 FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p3, GENERIC amd64 Kernel: releng/15.1-n283611-88e7371d9dc2 Intel Core 7 240H with Intel integrated graphics drm-latest-kmod-6.9.1501000_1 SwayFX 0.6 When I run doas reboot or doas poweroff with USB-C connected, the shutdown appears to proceed, but the laptop sometimes fails to restart or switch off. The screen goes off, while the power-button and Esc LEDs remain lit. The laptop stays warm and can drain its battery. I have to hold the power button to turn it off. This happens both with a USB-C monitor that supplies power and with only a USB-C charging cable connected. Therefore, an external display is not required to trigger the problem. Reboot and poweroff have worked in my tests without USB-C connected. I initially suspected SwayFX. However, exiting it with swaymsg exit and then shutting down from the text console did not reliably prevent the hang. The kernel log contains these ACPI errors: sh: ACPI Error: No handler for Region [ECSI] [EmbeddedControl] ACPI Error: Region EmbeddedControl (ID=3) has no handler ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.UBTC.ECRD due to previous error (AE_NOT_EXIST) ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.UBTC.NTFY due to previous error (AE_NOT_EXIST

mod_evasive not always limiting accesses

I am trying to stop abusers flooding my Apache web server with break-in attempts, sometimes at the rate of over 100/second. Part of my strategy is to install www/ap24_mod_evasive and set DOSSiteCount 20 DOSSiteInterval 1 and in httpd.conf MaxKeepAliveRequests 21 My pages all have fewer than that number of included files (images, stylesheets and scripts) so this would not slow access at normal human rates down. However, it's not slowing the bots down either. As I understand it evasive should block further connections when 15 requests in a second is exceeded and Apache should kill the connection after 21 requests from the same source, but this obviously isn't working if a bot working from the same IP address can make 100 requests in a second. Is there something I need to do in addition to installing and configuring the numbers?

MySQL won't start after update

FreeBSD 14.4 MySQL 8.4.11 I did an update to mysql-server this morning and duly tried to restart mysql-server . However it wouldn't start. Looking at the MySQL logs I have this ... Code: [ERROR] [MY-011906] [InnoDB] Database page corruption on disk or a failed file read of page [page id: space=4294967279, page number=290]. You may have to recover from a backup. InnoDB: End of page dump InnoDB: Page may be an insert undo log page I have no idea what has happened but I did restart the server and checked the hard drive which did find a few things and were corrected. How on earth do I reset/initialize MySQL properly. I've seen so may different ways when Googling. I have backups of the databases.

Why is my g++ screwed up?

This is on 16-current. Happens of two machines. Code: ~(gonzo-tmp)1387% g++13 -o l l.cc && ./l ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/gcc10/libstdc++.so.6: version GLIBCXX_3.4.32 required by /gonzo-space/home/cracauer/l not found ~(gonzo-tmp)1388% g++14 -o l l.cc && ./l ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/gcc10/libstdc++.so.6: version GLIBCXX_3.4.32 required by /gonzo-space/home/cracauer/l not found Why are they looking in the gcc10 directory? gcc10 is the oldest gcc installed. g++12 works.
