Country Comfort CC300 Chimney Insert Questions

Good Morning Friends! I got this Country Comfort CC300 insert for free and am cleaning it up and making it look pretty right now. This is a short term solution as I save money for a newer unit. With 6" liners being the new standard, can I get away using one with this unit? A local supplier has a Vermont Casting adapter that fits the oblong oval to get this to 6" round. Any similar experiences? Thanks, Poor Man

Hearth Install Stove Advice

Hello all, Need a bit of advice from anyone who has done a hearth mounted install of a wood stove (or chosen not do this as the case may be). I would like to have a wood stove installed rather than an insert. I think a stove will look 'nicer', heat the space better rather than trap all that heat behind a facia, allow me to put a water kettle on top for humidity, and finally avoid the need for a fan. I've had a Buck Stove insert in my basement for the past 20 years, and I find the fan very... Read more

Buck Stove?

We have an 11 year old Buck propane heater. Looks like a wood stove. Great heater, but last month the pilot light was fried, rusted. Our propane supplier, Blossman Gas, says that they no longer sell Buck stoves and they cannot get a pilot light for this stove. Blossman now sells a different line of stoves, and they sell a lot of stoves. Is Buck still in business?

Using Computer Muffin Fan to Push Hot Air

I am looking to get a little more airflow from my stove without using the noisy fan that came with it. My plan is to use a computer muffin fan either 92mm or 120mm to push air through the stove. The CFM ratings of these fans run in the 36-60 CFMrange. In your opinion is it worth having ~50cfm oozing through the stove pushing that heat into the surrounding room? I think that it is better than nothing! I don't need a ton of extra heat, just trying to extract a little more out of the stove... Read more

Quadrafire didn't start with remote

This is the 4th time the Quadrafire cb 1200 hasn't started by remote. I've replaced it with a variety of makes. The remote showed it on but it hadn't started. What am I missing here? I've had 2 Smart Stats and 2 cheapos. This last one was a Smart Stat. I'm lucky it was only 53 outside not 3. I'll be calling on a technician, but that will be a good couple of weeks. In the mean time I'll be keeping the heat pumps on back up. Any one had this problem? Not sure if I should be ordering another... Read more

Advice About a Sleeve Type Interface at the Ceiling Support Box

Hi All, I was hoping to ask two questions. As I'm sure will be come clear quickly, I'm pretty ignorant and would welcome any advice. The first one is quick, I have a damper in the first single wall chimney pipe above my stove that I am planning on removing. I was wondering if the two small holes left in the pipe will be an issue? If so, would you just suggest patching it with stove cement or something like that? Or to replace the section? The second one is more about seeking advice about... Read more

What is "seasoned firewood"?

First burning season, so trying to learn what's what.... Just bought a "cord of seasoned hardwood" from a local guy and he delivered it today. Everywhere I look, seasoned is <20% moisture content. So (after he left) I split a few of the logs and of course they were all in the 20-23% moisture range. I can't use this stuff in my catalytic woodstove. Should I ask for some of my money back? Or is this par for the course?

WiFi/app thermometer solution for stove pipe probe temperatures- plug and play under $150

Second time posting, and new to wood stoves since we bought this house 3 years ago. I just wanted to share what I just started using to monitor my wood stove double wall pipe temperatures with my phone. I didn’t want to mess with a raspberry Pi or other DIY thing. Just wanted something that worked and was less than $150. I ordered this SafeSense TempTouch 1 channel thermocouple sensor from Amazon https://a.co/d/8znr4PU for $100+tax. I couldn’t find the same exact one without the... Read more

Lopi Insert Flue Connection

Maybe I’m overthinking this, but the flue connection for this Lopi declaration insert doesn’t seem like a very good design. The appliance connector is a loose fit at best and only engages about 1/2” into the stove collar because of a welded tab that I assume is to prevent contact with the damper rod. The manual doesn’t speak to sealing this interface at all, just securing with the 3 screws and brackets. Is it worth sealing around the connection with furnace cement or something more robust... DeVault Fab Weld Piping Company Old Mill

Hi everybody. I just purchased a DeVault Fab Weld Piping Company, Old Mill 55SI manufactured in August of 1981. It seems to be in great condition. I was looking to know more info about the unit itself. I bought it for a 1500sqft house. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Rob

Found an expired 1984 patent for a creosote detector — thinking about building one

Been reading through the monitoring threads here and went looking for prior art before starting anything. Turned up US4486743, "Creosote buildup detector and annunciator," from the early 80s — two temperature sensors with a heater to differentiate them. Plus a chimney fire detector and a couple of stove temp alarms from the same era. All long expired. Somebody worked this out forty years ago, back when the sensing cost more than the stove, and we're still buying magnetic dials. I've got a... Read more

Glo Fire 301

Does anyone have an owners manual for a Glo Fire 301? I know people say use a Jotal manual but I'd really like a copy of the original. Sources?
