Aloha, I love this talk of Havenites meeting up back east, but it's a bit far for me. Wondering who here is from California. I live in Chico, CA, about 90 miles north of Sacramento. So, Californians, where you at?

I found an issue of the Japanese audiophile magazine “Stereo Sound” that was referenced on Roger Russell’s site. Surprisingly, I couldn’t find a scan of it anywhere. There are some nice pictures in here of Japanese audiophile setups, not to mention the encyclopedia of all of Mac’s gear up to that point. Like, ALL of it. Attached are a few systems, and a sample of one of the encyclopedia pages. Not pictured was a JBL C40 pair where a group of guys in super 70s attire seemed to be A/B’ing a... Read more
Guys. I’m sick. I can’t help myself. Dang, @jhoyt is an enabler and pointed this out to me this morning. I made an offer and now it’s mine. Dang it. But I’ve kinda been thinking it would be cool to go with my 275 system. I guess I need to read up if these are actually any good. Dang it. - Woody
I have had a theory that music aficionados also revel in food and drink. I get great joy in making people happy with food and drink and music. This is the thread where you can share your own food creations. What you share does not have to be from scratch, or very fancy. It just has to be what you made for family and friends at home. If you just want to share a pic or two, that is fine, but please at least tell us what we are looking at. I can taste something when I know what is in it. It... Read more
I was going to put this in digital but given my perspective, analog & vinyl might be the place. I'm a die-hard vinyl guy and only begrudgingly got to making digital a regular part of my in-home listening by going the DSD route, where all digital goes to an SDM chipped DSD capable DAC as DSD5.6 (128). For me, this is the most analog sounding digital I could find (or at least afford) and it's good enough that I can enjoy it right along with vinyl - even if a... Read more
And all is right in the world, or at least my living room. I have a hybrid setup and for the summer, I was driving my horns with 3 class D mono amps, but now that the nights are cooler, I pulled out my little 30 Watt EL-84 amps that I’m running as differential mono blocks to drive the mids. It’s quite lovely. Im looking forward to trying it out as a two way in the upcoming weeks.
Hi all, I am looking for a pair of good 807 adapters. there are a lot of different ones on the web, from $10-100. I would rather buy from a trusted havenite if possible. Thanks! Peter

After much contemplation, I bought a pair of Hammond 1630SEA's. Despite Hammond's reputation for inconsistency with a lot of their transformer-based products, some of them are quite nice and perform very well. Overall, I think the 1630SEA has performed quite well. The regulated 5% THD+N vs power response sweep contains a lot of information. This sweep provides power output at 5% THD at every frequency between 20Hz~20kHz. It also provides a look at the frequency response at the 5% THD power... Read more
I’ve enjoyed pours from a few companies with history as interesting as their offerings. I’d like to learn more and so this thread was born! A place to talk about your favorite bourbon and what you enjoy about it. How you drink it and why.
thought I'd post a video of my friend's wonderful system that I shot yesterday. Our main purpose there was to find the best sounding complement of tubes for his Tube Guru phono stage, which is based on the old Neumann VM-2. We found that the telefunken EF-806 was best in V1 and V2 positions. Any havenites who want to join us are welcome sometime for a session. Mono and Stereo LP and digital are on tap most times.
I've been listening to my HK A250 on my Altec 19s lately. The amp was made for 6L6GB tubes. I had forgotten, but it is loaded with HK branded 6L6GCs. I have a quad of barely used Sylvania 6L6GB that I am going to pop in. Just wondering if there is a meaningful difference in the sound of GBs v GCs. I can't A/B the tubes since the amp takes a good hour or more to warm up.
