Before a ball was kicked I would have taken eight points from that run without thinking about it. Manchester United, Coventry, Villa, Chelsea and Newcastle is not a gentle start for a promoted side, and we have only lost once. I have got 20 by Christmas as the number that would let me relax. The run after the break has Everton, Brentford and Ipswich at home, and those are the games where a season like this is won or lost.
Founded in 1904 Hull City Association Football Club was formed in 1904. In a city where rugby league was already the dominant sport, it was an ambitious move to launch a professional football club. The first season, 1904/05 The club was not yet in the Football League, so it spent the first season playing friendlies, 44 of them. Home games were played first at the Boulevard, the rugby league ground, and then mostly at The Circle cricket ground off Anlaby Road after a dispute with... Read more
Five visits so far For more than a century Hull City never played at Wembley at all. Since 2008 they have been five times. 2008: play off final, beat Bristol City The first ever visit. Dean Windass volleyed the only goal and Hull reached the top flight for the first time in their history. 2014: FA Cup semi final, beat Sheffield United Only the club's second semi final, the first having come in 1930. Hull won a thrilling game 5 goals to 3 to reach the final. 2014: FA... Read more

Third game in a row on the bench now. We broke the club transfer record to bring him in over the summer, and I do not think anyone pays that for an eighteen year old to have him watching from the side while we are sitting eighth. Everton at home after the break feels like the right time. I would bring him into the back three and let him learn in a game we should not lose, rather than throwing him in at the Emirates in November.
Who is he? Lucas Herrington, 18, centre back, currently at Colorado Rapids. Six caps for Australia already and one of the genuine breakout names of the World Cup, where he played at centre half and looked nothing like a teenager doing it. His rise has been ridiculous. This time last year he was at Brisbane Roar in the A-League. He moved to Colorado in January, played 20 games in all competitions, made the MLS All Star squad, and is now on his way to the Premier... Position: Winger Age: 24, Algeria Signed: 30 August 2024 from Farense Contract: until summer 2028 This season: 2 goals and 2 assists in 5 Premier League games He came in from Farense in Portugal two years ago as a bit of an unknown, and for most of his first two seasons that is more or less how he stayed. A couple of goals a season, in and out of the side, flashes of real quality but never a proper run of games. Then came the second leg against Millwall in May... Read more
The relegation The 2019/20 Championship season was interrupted by the pandemic and finished behind closed doors in the summer of 2020. Hull's run after the restart was disastrous. On 14 July 2020 they lost 8 nil at Wigan Athletic, equalling the heaviest defeat in the club's history, and the season ended in relegation to League One. It was the first time the club had been in the third tier since 2005. The response The club kept manager Grant McCann and rebuilt the squad for a... Read more
Where it started In the late 1990s Hull City were in the fourth tier, then called the Third Division. In 1997/98 they finished 22nd, near the very bottom of the entire Football League, with an average home league crowd of under 5,000. Early in 2001 the club went into receivership and its future was genuinely in doubt. The turnaround Adam Pearson bought the club in 2001. The new stadium opened in December 2002, and the move gave the club a platform it had never had at Boothferry... Read more
The short answer The Humber derby is the name for matches between Hull City and the two nearest league clubs on the other side of the estuary, Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United. Why Hull has no traditional local derby Hull sits on the north bank of the Humber with the North Sea to the east. There is no other professional football club within easy reach on the same side of the river, so the city has never had a cross town rival in the way many others have. In rugby league it is...
