Spectdrum by HD Instruments: a rhythmic spectral gate (VST3/AU, Win + Mac)

Different ears, I guess. But I think the harmonizer comparison misses what Spectdrum is really built for. A Harmonizer is a pitch and harmony tool first. Spectdrum is rhythmic first: it splits the input into four bands and you draw a step pattern for each one, carving rhythm out of a sustained source. It does have pitch envelopes per band and pitch shifting inside the reverb and delay sends, so it's not that it can't pitch, it's just not the point of the plugin. Two different tools for two different jobs.

Total Studio 5 MAX

Well I got pretty well everything I wanted in the last group buy. The only things I lack now are some Modo drum kits and bases. Similarly I have all the Sampletank stuff I want. That group buy was the dogs. I like IK stuff.

When will 88200hz be the standard? (and discussing low level synthesis)

I'm also interested in the question which sample rate(s) should be considered the standard within the context of a studio and music production. Back in the 2000s, I just assumed 44.1 kHz and tuned all my DSP algorithms to this assumption. I guess, nowadays 48 kHz (and its multiples) might be more common due to the obsoleteness of the CD and 48 k being the standard for video (I think, coming from the DVD format, if I'm not mistaken)? I'm mainly interested in this question because I occasionally release some samples or sample libraries and I would like to know, if users prefer their samples in 44.1 or 48 kHz. And I'm not talking about just converting them to the desired format, by the way. I'm talking about rendering or recording them in this format in the first place.

When will 88200hz be the standard? (and discussing low level synthesis)

Ok so we've established 1. some developers develop for 88200/96000 and resample (expensive) 2. some developers develop for 44100/48000 and include upsampling options for higher quality (cheaper, more difficult) And we all agree on this? 3. 88200/96000 is the premium elbow room for nonlinearity. 4. Anything above 96000 is overkill and you should be ashamed of yourself if your DSP only sounds good above that. ☠ 5. 44100hz is the minimum viable samplerate for a "within hearing range" synth. Conclusion: 44100 is the modern lofi of synthesis, therefore 88200 should be the standard, then I don't have to do extra work to make my synths more efficient at 44100. But there's something that keeps me on 44100 and it's that I believe synth algorithms should be noisy/gritty/lower fidelity at 44100 rather than: alias more, and if you can achieve that at 44100 you've made a lo fi 44100 analog synth emulation. Dithered oscillators, for me, is the missing puzzle piece to this lofi analog emulation goal. no aliasing clipping is huge imo. boost up to 88200 and you almost forget the source is running quantized frequencies.

[NEW] HarmonyKeen: harmony parts from a MIDI melody | VST3 / AU / Standalone | $59 intro | by Malsah Labs

Hi all, I'm Thom, from Arizona. I love music. I play guitar, sing and record at home, and harmony has always been my favorite part of a song. For years I wanted help writing harmony parts around a melody I already had, without a tool deciding how the song should go. I couldn't find anything that did that, so I spent most of the last year building it. It's called HarmonyKeen . You give it a melody as MIDI. You can import a file, draw it in the piano roll, play it in on a keyboard, or capture it from a track in your DAW. It reads the whole melody first, works out where the phrases start and end, picks chords that fit, and then writes one to three harmony parts above the melody, below it, or both. Every note stays editable, and you can swap any chord for another one that stays in key. You can drag each part into your DAW as its own MIDI track. It works from music theory rules. There's no neural network writing the notes, so the same melody with the same settings always gives you the same result. I didn't want something that writes my music for me. I wanted something that helps me take my own ideas further without giving up creative control. I'll be upfront about how it was built, since I know it's a big topic here right now. I'm not a programmer by trade (my day job is in emergency medicine). I designed HarmonyKeen and decided how it should work, and I used AI coding tools, mostly Claude Code, to help write the software. It's still been a year of dedicated work, thousands of hou

Melody Mate - A free MIDI melody / bassline generator

Tried it on two different browsers. The sound starts with lots of pops and crackles then stops altogether. The playhead keeps moving but no sound. I have downloaded the generated chord and melody, will share my feedback once I try those in DAW.
