Joe Hooper (Pit Stop Performance) recommendations for camshaft tuning. - by: v.f.

Actually, I’m considering using the ignition system from a Suzuki GSX 1100F. It has slightly less advance at maximum RPM—roughly 35–38 degrees, compared to the GPZ 1100’s 40 degrees. I wonder if anyone on the forum has tried this setup? Especially since the Suzuki’s ignition pickup is mounted on a plate, making it possible to make it adjustable, whereas the GPZ 1100 sensors offer no such adjustability.

Dyna S and the Chinese copies - by: MFP-Joe

When you mention the ignition you're offering, do you mean a genuine Dyna unit (like the one in my photo) or a Chinese knock-off? You can find those Chinese replicas on Amazon—labeled D1 and D2—selling for as little as 50 euros, but I don't think much of them; in my experience and that of people I know, they are simply too prone to failure and are built incredibly cheaply. - If your ignition is a Dyna S, I’d be happy to trade it for the drain plugs; that way, we’d each only have to cover the shipping costs. Since it’s a gift valued under $100 USD, shipping it to the USA shouldn't be an issue, though upon receipt I would have to pay 19% tax on the declared value plus a DHL processing fee... It’s become a crazy, expensive, and complicated global world: instead of making things simpler and more affordable for citizens, everyone just dreams of "getting rich overnight"...

I actually have a dynamic plate with the sensors and the china version. We sold 5 z1 bike to a guy and wouldn't you know he had two magnets fly off so I converted them all to points as he requested. I could send you the Dyna unit which ran fine until the magnet came off if you want to pay the frt. Or I would be interested in the carb drains. We could just trade if interested. On German ebay do you guys see the china knockoffs?

Hi! Yes, I tried shifting the valve timing, but I didn't get the expected result and didn't like how the engine ran; I also tried retarding the ignition timing. But again, the result didn't satisfy me. I tried running a richer mixture—that didn't help at all. Now I've taken the engine apart again and am going to lower the geometric compression ratio. )))

An issue of "Big Bike" from February 1974...! (I'm currently clearing out my workshop, and while going through all the boxes, I stumbled upon this magazine... It really makes my Kawasaki heart beat faster every time...)

Dyna S and the Chinese copies - by: MFP-Joe

Hi Cra-z1, thank you for thinking about...Unfortunately, I have no chance of getting a pickup like that here in Germany! (I actually checked with the German distributor yesterday, but unfortunately, they can't help me.) ((- If there *is* a chance of shipping it to Germany, I would of course cover the associated costs—and you certainly don't have to give it to me for free )) And, in case you're interested in a swap: I can offer you a manual timing chain tensioner for the Z900/Z1000—made of aluminum with a stainless steel bolt... I produced a small batch of them a few years ago, and I just found two more...or some bottom-screws for the early Z1 carbs....
