Regarding spray lanolin...

Hello, I’d like to try it and am curious to hear your opinions. I’m particularly interested in the type of lanolin used to make the mixture, as well as the resulting residue—both inside and outside the case. Can lanolin cream be used to make the lubricant? Is the 2:10 mixing ratio still the standard? How do you clean it off? If it gets inside the case neck, is it difficult to remove/clean?

Best elk cartridge: what are you actually using?

There are a lot of opinions on the best elk cartridge, but I’m more interested in what people are actually carrying into the field. What cartridge are you currently using for elk hunting, what bullet are you shooting, and why did you choose that setup? I’m especially interested in real-world experience from people using cartridges like the 6.5 PRC, 7 PRC, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 300 WSM, 300 PRC, 338s, and everything in between. What has worked well for you on elk, and is there... Read more

Should You Spend More Money on Your Rifle or Your Scope?

Both won’t work for this. Pick one. If you were putting together a new long-range hunting rifle today and had a fixed budget, where would you put more of the money — the rifle or the scope? For example, would you rather have a $3,000 rifle with a $1,500 scope, or a $1,500 rifle with a $3,000 scope? At what point do you think spending more on the rifle stops giving you as much benefit as putting that money into better optics? There probably isn’t one right answer here, so I’m curious... Stock Preferences

Questions on Stocks: What is your favorite aftermarket stock and why? More specifically, what features make it your top choice? How would your choice change if you wanted a lightweight stock? (Less than 30ozs) How much does stock design play in felt recoil and spotting the shot? Are flush cups the way of the future, or is there still a place for sling studs? Does an integrated ARCA like the Fierce Rival XP 2.0 stock appeal to you? How much does caliber play in your stock preferences... Read more

Conumdrum - is it me?

Way back, like last century, a smith showed me how to check bolt lug contact, basically the sharpie method. I've been using it since. Yesterday, my smith told me that my lugs were only contacting on two out of three. I tried to get pics, but these were the best I could get. I think they are all good, how about some opinions, please? **EDIT** took out "professional"

Nice bull in the feild

Glanced over into the field just before dark and spot some elk at the tree li e about 700yds away. Went in and got my binoculars and spotted this really nice bull. Got my spotting scope and phone adapter (I'm not real up on the phone adapter yet) and managed to get set up and get a few pictures. Just my luck all cow tags for us this year but pretty cool just to see him.

WTS Zeiss V6 3-18

For sale is a Zeiss Conquest V6 3-18x50. It has the ZMOA reticle and 1/4 MOA turrets. It is a terrific lightweight scope that has served me well and will work perfectly with a lightweight long range hunting rifle setup. I’m asking $1000. Please let me know if you have any questions. DP

Delta Stryker HD 4.5-30x56

For sale is a Delta Stryker HD 4.5-30x56. The reticle is the LRD-1P and the turrets are in 1/10 mil. It is a nice scope that I had used on a target gun a few years back and it is on a rifle right now doing some load development. It was not used for anything except target shooting at a range, so it is in great shape. It has been sitting in my safe and now it is time to go to someone that will use it. I’m asking $800 for it. Please let me know if you have any questions. DP

25 WBY RPM load development

I have a custom built 25 WBY RPM that I will be building a load for this hunting season. It has a Terminius Kratos Lite action, Bartlein carbon barrel, and a Jewel trigger. It is sitting in a bedded AG composites stock for now. I will be testing 135 burgers and 128 ELDx bullets. I’m hoping my kids shoot all of their animals with this rifle this year. Hopefully I can find a load it likes. I will keep you all posted with how the load development goes. DP

7-300 PRC +P load development

I have a custom rifle chambered in 7-300 PRC +P that I will be building a load for this hunting season. It has a Kelblys Nanook action, Mullerworks #5 8 twist barrel, and a Trigger Tech trigger. For now it sits in a XLR magnesium chassis. I also had a carbon barrel chambered at the same time for the same action to potentially do a little comparison work or maybe I will like this round a lot and end up with 2… I will be testing 190 A tips and have a few solid copper bullets I will be testing...
