Donna, I had a similar issue with my Marinette. The yard mechanic told me that the old electronic ignition was degraded and advised that an upgrade would fix the problem. He replaced the distributors and coils with upgraded Petronix components which completely fixed the problem. Not sure if your boat has the same problem, but it is definitely a possibility. -Scott

My husband purchased this boat 3 years ago. From someone who just had it sitting at a dock. We got it running and would take it out for fishing. This last year we would go out on two engines and come back on one. Our marina said this year they only could get one engine started after storing it this past winter. They claim that it has a wiring issue now and that it will be costly. I have the owners manual and I think the wiring diagram. Should I get a second opinion? My gut tells me the marina doesn't want to be bothered. My boat is old which he constantly reminds me. I think he just interested in selling me a boat then fixing what we have. Did we ever get an update on the Rustoleum Top Side? I used some on my swim platform and then used some for my boot stripe. Swim platform held up just fine and boot stripe did mostly good. Both applications suffered from the same application misery, the paint does no like going on thick.....so your relegated to multiple very thin applications. This boils down to more clean up, longer project duration, etc. Quite honestly, not a big deal at all....just an observation. I ended up using PPG for the hull eventually and very happy with that result. Before that, the Rustoleum topside blue that I used for the boot stripe would not hold up around the bow area. Totally understandable and not hating on Rustoleum at all.
Sold for $537.00 heck of a deal !!
Says it's in Cleveland, overall it doesn't look bad. may be worth saving.
Boat Angel, where people donate old boats, currently has a Big M on Ebay. Says it needs engine work. Starting bid was $20. Yes twenty ! https://www.ebay.com/itm/358772205395?_ ... olid=10049
A number of years ago I made the mistake of leaving the gas cap on our 32' Sedan Bridge off... This was in the spring and a number of heavy rains dumped a lot of water in the tank. To clear the water and contaminated fuel I made up a rig: - several feet of reinforced vinyl hose - a 12v fiel pump from NAPA - a 4" piece of brass pipe - 4' of copper tubing - 2 long lengths of copper wire (red + / black - ) - toggle switch - 2 larger alligator clips - new gas tank sending unit hole gasket - 5 gallon water jug - a number of 5 gallon gas cans Process - *** MAKE SURE BATTERY POWER SQITCHES ARE >> OFF << 1. I slipped the brass pipe over the end of vinyl hose holding in place using copper wire twisted around end of the hose, up and around the pipe and finally around the hose, twisted tight above the pipe. 2. Tie weap / copper tie the copper tube to the vinyl hose about 18" from the hose/brass pipe end. This will provide flexibility to move the weighted end of the hose around the bottom of the tank 3. Connect one end of each wire to its associated alligator clip. 4. The wires should be sufficiently long to run from the battery to the gas tank area, with some slack 5. Cut the black wire about 4' from the free end. 6. Strip & Connect the newly cut black wire ends to the toggle switch, leaving the switch in the off 7. Connect the red & black wire(from the switch) to the fuel pump *** tape over connections to prevent shorting to hull.. 8. Using a black sharpie mark the tank's sending unit
I am looking for the size of the half coupling welded on the fuel tank for the fuel gauge, can't remember if it is 1.25" or 1.5" NPT. This is on a 1980 28' sedan. Thanks, Bill
Hello love2travel, I have a similar Marinette, although an Express. I replaced the outside deck with white 3/4" HDPE a few years back and am absolutely happy with the results. I had been thinking about the project for a while as there was a large soft spot. Being boarded by two coast guard officers made the decision as they both stood on the soft area while asking me questions. Luckily they didn't go through. I did have to add some additional aluminum supports to meet the specified maximum 18 inch span requirements. My interior cabin floor hasn't rotted. It's not covered with parquet like yours. Will you be able to reuse the hardwood?
Glad you were able to log in and post.. -appeal to an owner of a similar boat (lots out there) here and on FB to do a cardboard template for you. -consider not plywood (but if you do, it's marine plywood painted thoroughly both sides before you lay it down -- edges very important) but rather Plasteak. They make an underlayment and tongue and groove boards that are easy to work with and last "forever". Costs more but worth every penny. For example, I have a scrap piece that has been exposed to constant weather in my backyard for more than 20 yrs with little sign of wear. and finally, do keep us updated on yr progress. good luck with the renovation.
Hi, I hope I can get some insight to some ideas. I have a 1973 32 Flybridge Sedan. The Decking was all rotted and could not be removed to be traced.. Now it has all been removed and trashed. What is the best way to go about putting in new plywood? Is the only answer to put cardboard down and work with that? The good thing is the hatches are still 100% in great condition... Any thoughts or help would be great
Generally ignition were toggles (1980's+) The keys were either built into the Guest battery switches in the engineroom or hidden behind the helm on fabricated angle aluminum mounts. I think some of the Marquis models had the keys & battery switches under the cabin stairs. I think Pre 1980's the ignitions were keyed?? Not sure why Marinette switched from key to toggle. The mid 1980's (85/86) seemed to be a refinement period for the line in general.
