Workshop lighting for small machines

I’m curious what everyone uses for lighting around their smaller machines and workbenches. I’ve been looking at different options for getting more even light around the work area, especially when working on smaller parts. Adjustable task lamps seem useful, but I’m also wondering whether anyone has tried LED strip lighting around a bench or machine. Do you find a focused lamp is enough, or does having more general lighting around the workspace make a noticeable difference?

Potential pimelodina flavipinnis

Whilst picking some piriampus hidden within a pack of vulture catfish that had come into the country, I spotted this little guy in the same batch of fish. Hidden at the back. It took me a while to pin point what it could have been. But, I believe it to be a Pimelodina flavipinnis. I passed the picture to Steven grant (the dark One) he suggested the same. Must be a first for the uk. Cant say I’ve recalled seeing them before. I’ll be interested to see how it matures and if it turns out to... Read more

Animal Crossing Sprache

Read more

Gymnotus gone, now what?

Sooo yesterday something terrible happened, i went to check on my fish like i do every day. Havent seen the gymnotus (javari i think) in a day or so but thats no reason to panick with this fish yet.. Unfortunately i saw something poke out of the half coconut i have in there for hiding spots, lifted it and found the gymnotus knifefish dead and partially eaten by tank members. Now i have been thinking of a replacement for this awesome fish, soon the 80x40x50cm will be replaced by a... Read more

My new Rainbow Wolf

Wanted to share some photos of my new rainbow wolf. Extremely active with tons of personality. He came to me with a mangled face, and has been very docile with some feeders in the tank and my hands. He actually let me plant the whole tank, add drift wood, etc with him in it and just watched. Hes eaten everything I have given him so far except live food, but I suspect that may be due to his damaged face. Well see if the aggression picks up with a healed face and age. ... Read more

Oscars at Fish Story

Thought I'd cave in and pay the stellar hobby staple its due as the number of oscars coming to our venue and sometimes passing to other homes increases. There is one typical oscar in this tank (but with a manged up upper lip) and one different oscar species in this tank. Some said crassipinnis but Jason Gone Fishing said Astronotus orbicularis. A couple of recent rescues. One oscar has a mangled up lower lip:

Our 7+1 pacu

Flashback from 2010-2011. Along with iridescent shark catfish (IDS), pacu have always been the most plentiful number-wise among our rescues. We probably rescued couple of dozen 1'-2' pacu in those years. They are also nasty, unacceptable tank mates for timid and relatively slow and large fish, such as IDS and other shy Pangasids, like the black ear, channel catfish and bullheads (Ictalurids), large Doradids, such as niger, granulated catfish, irwini catfish, soldier catfish, etc. They do... TSNxLei, I think. Could it be P. corruscans?

Back to 2010-2011. Our very first TSN x Leiarius (TSN x achara, TSN x marmoratus, TSN x marbled pim) hybrid. A rescue, 1.5'. Named Amigo. ... Oct 2018: thebiggerthebetter said: Video update on our TSNxLei, feeding included: Click to expand... Last update on our 8 year old TSNxLei hybrid. It had been doing so well recently, feeding vigorously and actively on pellets and even going after thawed fish, which is rare for it. Two weeks ago the fish stopped it. A few days back... Read more

TSNxRTC hybrids at Fish Story Aquarium and Rescue

A learning story with one of our first hybrids from 2011-2012: https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=33298 In retrospect, I am 100% sure the hybrid died of indigestion as a result of low DO, exactly as it occurred in the case of these RTCs: https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=34778 Our very first hybrid from 2010, 4": A few months later at 10"...
