MSI Katana 15 (14900HX) Hard EC Power Limit at ~85W-93W | Looking for alternative ways to bypass

Hi everyone, I'm tuning my MSI Katana 15 HX (Core i9-14900HX, RTX 5060 Laptop). Despite having solid thermal headroom and an undervolted profile, the system is strictly hitting an EC (Embedded Controller) / hardware power limit around ~85W to 93W sustained under Cinebench R23 / CPU-Z stress tests. ### Current Tuning & Thermal Setup: - Undervolt: -129.9 mV Core / Cache offset via ThrottleStop FIVR. - AC Loadline tuned to 90 in BIOS. - Thermal Mod: Conductonaut Extreme Liquid Metal on the CPU die, and Upsiren UX PRO Ultra thermal putty on the VRMs / VRAM with the stock aluminum plate heatsink. - Thermals: Extremely cool. Full load package power peaks at ~93.7W at only 73°C (with fan running moderately; if fans are maxed out, it drops into the low 50s°C). VRM temps stay around 70–80°C. - Cinebench R23 score: ~28,185 pts at ~93W. - CPU-Z Multi-Thread: ~12,100 pts. ### The Issue: 1. In ThrottleStop TPL, Long Power PL1 and Short Power PL2 are set higher (115W/135W+), Sync MMIO unchecked, Disable Controls unchecked. MSI Center is set to Extreme Performance Mode. 2. In the Advanced BIOS (Power & Performance / Config TDP), PL1/PL2 are also configured higher (115W-150W). 3. However, whenever the CPU package power attempts to breach ~85W–93W, the system immediately cuts clock ratios back down to lock the package power around 82W–85W. 4. I want to keep IMON settings strictly at stock/untouched to maintain system stability and SVID accuracy. ### Questions for the community: 1. Is there an

Looking for a high-end gaming laptop with 9955HX3D, RTX 5080+ and no major drawbacks

Hi, I’ve been trying to find a replacement for my PC for some time, but I’m having trouble finding the right laptop because every high-end model seems to have some kind of drawback. There are a few things that are particularly important to me: I want a display with low response times, as I mainly play fast-paced FPS games such as Apex Legends, Deadlock, CS, and Valorant. I want good thermals and, ideally, no CPU or GPU thermal throttling. It would also be preferable if the WASD area didn’t get excessively hot during gaming. I specifically want the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, as it seems to be significantly faster in gaming than the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX. The laptop should have at least an RTX 5080. I’ve already looked at several models: Lenovo Legion 7 Pro – On paper, this laptop looks great, but the CPU temperatures are honestly quite concerning. 100°C while gaming? And these weren’t even synthetic benchmarks such as Cinebench — it reached those temperatures while playing Cyberpunk 2077... ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 – This laptop initially looked very promising, but its display seems to suffer from some kind of strange flickering caused by a conflict between the backlight strobing and synchronization technology. You can see the effect in Linus’ video here: https://youtu.be/mpDanDwd7x0?t=168 . Apparently, this can potentially cause headaches during longer gaming sessions. I also looked at laptops with external liquid cooling from Dream Machines and XMG. However, it seems that these mode

My Journey in E-Commerce: From Amazon to Etsy Product Hunting

Hi, I’m Ahsan. I have experience in e-commerce and product research, including around 6 months of experience working on Amazon. Currently, I’m focusing on Etsy and learning more about effective product hunting and market research. My main interest is finding small, lightweight, and practical wooden products that have good market potential. I already have a basic understanding of online selling and marketplace research, and I’m working on improving my product selection and SEO skills.

Hello

Hello, I picked up an old p775dm3 to be my daily-driver mobile workstation a while back. I have been doing some upgrades, maintenance, and mods and got to the point where I need to ask some questions about vbios power limits and things, seemed like this place is where discussions of that sort occur, so I made an account. Looking forward to being here and continuing my upgrade adventures.

Hello!

Hello there. U.K member here. I was sorting out stuff to get rid of and found my old Alienware M17X R4, which I had hardly ever used to be honest. Battery is nerfed by now of course, but decided to come here and see what I could potentially do with it. I almost gave it away but changed my mind 🙂

HP Zbook 16 G9 Fury - new adventure!

Hi there! As I am slowly closing my old project, there is a new one as soon as I bought replacement for ol' trusty rusty 8570w. With a nice price tag, I though "why not". It has 12th gen i7 HX CPU, A3000 gpu, lovely vapor chamber, 32GB of ram and a lot of potential. There are some things I don't like and some I do. As for now I wanted to : - Change keyboard Done! -Upgrade IPS LCD to OLED 120HZ 2K -Upgrade power supply to at least 280W or even 330W (I use puny 200W) -Make chassis sturdier and coolder? (I mean less hot furnance, more ice freezer) -Upgrade speakers -Upgrade GPU - A3000 to at least A3500 or higher -Newer motherboard? (If I win lottery, haha) I tried using chinesium big HP charger to smaller HP charger (as I have 280W left from 8570w), but failed. So I don't recommend them, laptop don't recognize those. And original 200W is burning itself slowly to death. Already bought cable with enough DP lanes for 4K ! Part number on photo. Now I have to save money for buying that sweet, sweet 120HZ OLED from Samsung.. Case is good, generally speaking, but I hate plastic bottom plate. I plan to try CNC that in aluminium.. maybe. And I have yet to think about modding palmrest to less of that of hot plate :F (no ideas for now) Before I bought that COMPUTOR (think of aliens voice in muppets, haha) I used for 2 weeks MBP 16" with M1. I disliked some things about that bitten apple, but it's ice like coldness and very good sounding (for laptop) speakers got me shocked. Inspired me so

Hello

Hello. I'm new to this group, but I am not new to computers.

Guide: Manual Secure Boot 2023/2024 Certificate Update for Legacy Systems Like HP EliteBook 8570W (Pure PowerShell)

The Problem: Many older legacy systems (such as Ivy Bridge-generation laptops like the HP EliteBook 8570w) are completely blocked from receiving the modern Windows Secure Boot 2023/2024 certificate updates. Because these older devices have strict NVRAM variable storage limits, Microsoft programmatically flags them with an internal Known Issue block ( KI_8 / Temporarily Paused ) in the Event Logs, leaving the system silently unpatched or stuck in infinite update retry loops. Manual attempts often hit a brick wall with authentication or access errors due to payload targeting mismatches. What is special about this recipe: Instead of throwing your hands up or risking a system brick, this recipe bypasses the OS-level blocks by safely splitting the signed payloads and manually appending them to their exact cryptographically matched NVRAM variables ( db vs dbx ), managing the tight variable space perfectly. Broad Adaptability: While this recipe explicitly covers the HP EliteBook 8570w, the same fundamental principles can be adjusted to unblock other legacy hardware facing similar NVRAM or staging limitations. 100% Native PowerShell: Done entirely within standard Windows PowerShell. Zero Bloat: No third-party tools, no sketchy flashing utilities, and no dangerous BIOS modding required. Validated Cleanup: Includes a built-in verification step and a clean sweep script to unmount the EFI partition and wipe temporary footprints when finished. Below is the complete, field-tested step-by-s

HP ZBook 15 G4 Refurbishment/Upgrade Project

Another one for the collection. Same old story: one day I was mindlessly scrolling through OLX out of boredom and stumbled upon this machine for sale. It was listed as defective and "for parts", not turning on, but the screen, graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro M1000M 2GB), keyboard, and battery (health unknown) had been tested and were working perfectly. Looking at the exterior, the chassis is pretty badly damaged, as you can see in the photos below. Even so, I figured it would be a good deal for the price, whether to restore it or sell off the working parts. I decided to restore and upgrade it, so I'll be posting the progress of this project in this topic. One final note: this laptop is originally a 15 G3 (with an i7-6820HQ), but I'll be turning it into a 15 G4 by swapping out the motherboard. Here are the listing photos taken by the seller: And here’s a photo of the internals: Signs of attempted repair:

Clevo W860/870CU Nvidia Quadro Fermi GPU upgrade

Hello, I have a W870CU where I believe the GTX 460M is starting to die (it needs to be underclocked or else the system will hard crash). I decided to take a gamble on a Dell NVIDIA Quadro 3000M as it was cheap and also Fermi. I installed it into my machine (it was quick and easy, no need to modify/change the heatsink), but when trying to power it back on, the screen is all black with the laptop beeping continuously. Has anybody who has had success with upgrading one of these chime and let me know what GPU’s work and if this laptop has a vBIOS whitelist?
