family bridges court order

Has anyone here successfully obtained a court order for an intensive reunification program (like Family Bridges) with a 90-day no-contact period for an entrenched teen? My situation is severe alienation where the child is fully aligned with mom. Outpatient therapy keeps hitting roadblocks, and a change of environment seems like the only real solution left. I brought the program up with our court-ordered therapist, who verbally said she supports it and was surprised it wasn't already... Read more

FRO and ending child support issues

Hi, I have 2 children, the older is 21 and still in university, and the younger has graduated high school, is 19, and has been working full-time for more than a year. I pay CS to the FRO. It has not been updated for 5 years, so the amount I have been paying is lower than the new table for my current income. It seemed that mom was willing to sign a motion to end the child support months ago, but she dragged it out, and has now decided that she thinks the 19 year old should still be on CS... Read more

Parenting time arrangements when moving

I am currently separated and in the process of selling the family home in Mississauga. The cost of buying/renting in my current area is difficult with one income, but home prices in Hamilton (where I work) are much more attainable. Kids currently go to school in Mississauga. Are there any parenting arrangements or ways to share 50/50 custody given the long drive to their school?

FRO, adult child support & overpayment

Hi everyone, I was on this chat many years ago and was hoping I wouldn't be back. No offense.... First, I'm looking for a lawyer VERY experienced with FRO issues, specifically an adult child asking for support due to anxiety, overpayment due to arrears & parental alienation. Anywhere between East Ottawa all the way to Hawkesbury. I've been blindly paying $2k per month as part of an agreement with FRO regarding arrears. I wasn't able to work for 4 years due to stress of the on-going... Read more

Child relocation to a different province, but still 50/50??

Hello everyone I hope you're all well. Me and x have been divorced for about 6 years now, we've had 50/50 parenting time since the start and a court order for shared custody. We live in Ontario, our child is now 13 and has been homeschooled for the past few years. She's moved around a bit, I've stayed in the same place throughout the years but it's always been 50/50 parenting time. We have a parenting plan we both signed and in it, it says we can't move to where access would be affected... Read more

Divorce Lawyer Review - Richard Bowles (Ottawa)

At our five-day parenting trial, where I was self-represented, his client sought to cut my parenting time to two hours a week. The court ordered 50/50 shared parenting! In my experience, his approach escalates conflict. The litigation has been ongoing since 2020, and our family's combined legal costs are nearly $500,000+. His correspondence to me, a self-represented litigant with disclosed disabilities, has repeatedly been dismissive. He called me "intentionally obtuse" and "deliberately... Read more

How Can Parents Make Co-Parenting Easier After Divorce?

Co-parenting after divorce can be challenging, especially when parents have different schedules, communication styles, or expectations. Having a clear parenting schedule can help both parents understand responsibilities and reduce unnecessary disagreements. Regular communication, flexibility, and keeping the child’s needs at the center of decisions can also make co-parenting more manageable. Parents may want to agree in advance on important matters such as school activities, holidays... Read more
