Coolant change

Hello everyone, first time posting. I just bought a 2005 st1300 with about 16,500 miles. The bike runs very well, but being the third owner I thought I'd replace the air filter and plugs along with fixing the heated grips and 12v outlet. My question is, should I also change the coolant. I checked and it looks green and clean and the bike has no visible coolant leaks. If so, what coolant should I use without silicate and borate (s), I think that's right.

Introduction

Hello, I'm posting as an introduction and a reason to get my first post authorised. I'm based in Hull in the UK, picked up a 2001 ST1100 last weekend and have only managed one ride on it so far, a trip from Falkirk to Hull and it was much comfier than my CBR600F. Am in the process of taking it to bits and putting it back together again. So far I have found a few small issues to try and rectify. - clutch seems to have a very high biting point so very little clutch travel is necessary to... Read more

Almost there... coffee and weather, Thursday 1 October

Good morning everyone The Cubano roast is ready to be enjoyed. Please drink it responsibly- use a cup or mug and don't drink it straight from the carafe or try pouring it in your cupped hand and drinking from that. It's 62°F in Rockville with a thin layer of clouds that give the moon a diffused appearance but which don't conceal it altogether. Mostly sunny with a high of 85 or so is the prediction for later on. Uke day today, plus online bridge this evening. Stay safe and well everyone... Read more

Uncle Phil's Birthday Feast

As I have said before, I grew up pretty poor and birthday celebrations were just not an option. So I decided when I was able I would have chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream and a big glass of milk on my birthday. I figured if it killed me, I'd die with a big smile on my face and the undertaker would save money since I would already be smiling. This year my birthday on the 13th came a little too 'close' to my six month blood draw/check up so I decided to postpone it. Well, I had my blood... Read more

ST1300 - Odyssey PC545 installation

Odyssey PC545 Battery Installation using the HBH ST1300P Mounting Kit I've experienced two Yuasa battery shortcomings, and without going into the details about those, I decided I would go the extra mile, and install an Odyssey PC545 battery. This is the same battery which a few police forces have opted to install in their ST1300P motorcycles because of the electrical demands placed on their machines from various lights and sound-makers which are not standard equipment on regular... Wednesday coffee and weather, 30 Sep

Good morning everyone The end of the third quarter of 2026 is at hand. Can year's end be far behind? Why not mull that over as you enjoy a cup of Cubano roast, which is hot and ready for you. It's 58°F and mostly clear in Rockville, where we expect a high of 77 under sunny-but-humid skies. I'll keep working on the uke stands, so that they'll be ready tomorrow. I'm in the slowest part of the process- applying oil-based clear coat then waiting hours for each coat to dry before I can... Read more

Anyone a lighthouse enthusiast?

I came across a website called mapped Earth, who have a page showing lighthouses around the world - but not in the normal way. Ever wish you could see them in relation to each other, from an altitude that encompassed them all, at night? If so, here's an interesting view. Hope you find it neat, nifty or nice. https://mapped.earth/lighthouses/world

ST1300 - Rust in Petrol Tank

Changing a new fuel pump assembly that comes with petrol filter etc and saw the condition of the rusted sub tank. Negligent from previous owner either allowing slight rain water seepage into petrol tank from tank cap or not filling up the petrol tank in storage and over the years, this is what happens. Decided to order a new sub petrol tank and main tank and time to service all injectors, new fuel line and time to service throttle body etc

Tire Lube

I have been using Murphys Tire Mounting Euro Paste in a bucket. Just add water and it gets pretty slick. Anyone have a better idea? Has to be a slicker than snot lube somewhere. Rear tires tend to be a challenge at times to get the tire off the rim. Pretty sure operator error is involved. You Tube makes it look so easy.
