Here we go again. In the past, this popular thread had to be re-started a number of times because the files got to big for the software used. The restart with volume VIII accidentally practically coincided with the start of the new year 2022. Many members thought this was actually a good idea to pick a new year for a new thread, so since 2023 we decided to make this an annual event. Time for volume XII now, the year 2026 (already in East... Current Listening Vol XII [2026]

I may be out on a limb here, but Mahler wrote symphonies like Brahms and composed with a common Viennese temperament, and Mahler, like Wagner, was certainly programmatic in his outlook. Mahler‘s harmonic language was not too far from either Wagner or Brahms.

Attention MAS. Emilio Pons gets a lot of negative feedback but I am really drawn to his critiques and tend to agree with much he has to say.
I want to explore dark night music, my feeling is that it's a very significant aspect of music extending to our own times -- think Cerha and Sciarrino. To kick off, there's Utrenja -- peak Penderecki for me, possibly the best thing he wrote. I'd be interested to know what you make of it. Here's the start of it on youtube.
String Quartet No. 1 in D minor, Op. 4 “de la Guitarra”I love string music and just following another forum friend example am going to dedicate every day of the week time enough to listen quietly a string quartet. I will google for info about the particular opus and post any important info that I found, specially performers interview and so on.. Anyone wanting to join is welcome, just maintaining the perspective stated in the post title. You will probably will find here emotions... Weekly quartet. Just a music lover perspective.
