UL Fly Rods, Reels, & Lines
Sage SPL 080-3

Just got back from vacation, and spent a lot of time going through my fly fishing gear, as well as on line reading. I spotted a Sage 080-3 on fleabay that was talking to me, and after some soul searching decided it would have to be mine, but I needed to wait until this friday to buy it. Last night I found a piece of paper listing my Sage 3100, Click II and Click 012 reels and the lines I had spooled for each. Next to the Click II I had written "080-3" for a Sage QDT 0wt line? I didn't remember ever buying that rod, but decided I could certainly wait until I returned home (today) to check. Lo and behold I did have the 080-3 (a nice one), just don't remember every acquiring it!. I'm 74 so give me a break, and it saved me over $700. ;-) On a side note, I noticed that DCG (Dave) hadn't been on this site in a long time, not a good sign I'm sure. The reason I ask is that I purchased several Dan Craft custom jobs from him some years back, made by a member or members of this site.

Time To Hang Up My Waders

Going into my 80th next year and have accepted that my days of wading through small streams with my three weights are now over. I have a very nice collection of rods and reels by Orvis, House of Hardy, Winston, Loomis and Mc Farland that need new users. I have just registered and understand I may not list in the classified. I hope I'm not over stepping with this post in asking if anyone has an interest in discussing what I have to contact me directly for photos and prices. Thanks to all. UL Fishing Reports
Specks on the 2 Weight

John and I got out there again this morning. We had light winds forecast so I took a two, a six, and a seven. Tides are still way low. I lost count of the specks I caught on the two weight. Most were just under the slot, but I got a few up to 18". Caught a small jack, a rat red, a bunch of ladyfish, some pinfish, and a cat on the two before the wind got frisky. Finally stepped up to the seven with a heavier Clouser to dredge up some more specks with the slackening tide and increasing winds; all chuck-'n-duck casting. We had an interesting dolphin encounter; a couple of them ran up shallow and held 10 - 15 feet away from both of us (we were 75 - 100 yards apart). They wouldn't hit a fish on the line, but they instantly nailed everything we released. A couple of times when I had ladyfish on, I'd slap the water several times and they'd wait right in front of me for the release. I'm just amazed at the fact that they won't hit a hooked fish, but instantly grab a released fish. Sometimes their presence shuts the bite down, but sometimes -- like today -- their presence has no effect on the bite. The last couple of trips I caught plenty of fish while the dolphins were right there with us, actively feeding. Another stellar day in Paradise..........

Is this the TFO Pro 2 you all are talking about, or another TFO?

Specks on the 2 Weight

Well........ Cliff's been making the wind blow nonstop this year so I haven't gotten out as much as I'd like. Brent, make him behave! We had a reasonable wind forecast this morning at Port Mansfield, so my buddy John and I ran up there to see if we could entertain the li'l fishies. Had a falling tide all morning, and the water has been low lately. We staked out on the edge of a flat, after poling across it, where I caught a mess of black drum up to 36" a couple of weeks ago (on an eight weight; too much wind). There were a lot of black drum, reds, trout, and catfish tailing on the flat. The black drum all had lockjaw; threw flies at several dozen of them without a bit of interest. Using one of the two weights (FINALLY!!!) I caught a couple of small reds, lost count of the specks (two followed me home, so I invited them to dinner), and few small jacks. I fought off hordes of needlefish (John caught his first one, which drew blood) and fortunately, managed to avoid all the catfish that were present and tailing. I had a few cats follow a beadhead #6 shrimp pattern, but they never committed. Some of the fish were sight cast, but most were caught blind casting the deeper water just off the edge of the flat. A fun day with great company and enough action to keep me happy. By 11:00 the winds were getting crazy again (thanks, Cliff) but I stuck it out with the two weight until after 1:00. I finally had to tap out. Hopefully the winds will let me back out there with the two weight aga

New Member Introduction

I am a long time fly fisher of small streams in my home state of Colorado. Even though it is hard to beat this state for the number of miles of beautiful streams I still travel about to expand my horizons. Alaska, BC, Wyo, Montana, Louisiana, Florida, and many more. Next year I am thinking about spending a week in SE Idaho around the Ashton area. If anyone is familiar with that area, and has any insights, please contact me - I have many general questions.

The fish don't care what your rod, reel, line, etc. look like, the only thing they care about is putting something in front of them that looks tasty. ...and lets not even get started on how Cliff dresses...The man is shameless.
