Maybe that's possible, but I think that's details right now. What matters is that the files actually work the way they should, not the bling-bling around them, I'd say. 😜

Help identifying a VLB IDE controller based on Promise PDC20230C and N80L286-12

Makes you wonder why nobody (or did they?) make an external box pluggable between ordinary IDE drive and controller 😀 Not that it would make much sense, imo all those caching controllers are inferior to having more ram in the system and SmartDrive loaded. Pretty much yeah. When smartdrive 4.0 came out with DOS 6.0 in 1993, computers frequently had more than 1MB ram and caching controllers faced a strong headwind against a much more efficient solution. At the same time, hard drive vendors were building ever larger caches into the drives themselves, which had access to buffer things that were just not available to the host side, like an instant replay of that block that just went under the drive head but wasn't requested until after it passed, that kind of stuff. The niche for the desktop caching controller was pretty much over as fast as it came, just like VLB itself. Although in 1993, it was still super cool to imagine with friends that if you had more money, you could buy a 286 CPU to handle the I/O in your 486-66 VLB monster. Practical? No. Aspirational? Most certainly. Caching did stick around on servers as RAID controllers for another 10-15 years before "the SAN" rendered them obsolete. Curiously, the SAN is sort of resembles the external pluggable box between commodity drives and the computer that you were day dreaming about ( with added features for self defrags, hot swappable tiered storage, volume switching between servers, MPIO load balancing, integrated snapshots an

NCR 3230-7020 486 DX 33 System - Cache question?

My hands shake to much Ive come to find out on doing small components cool thing about smd is you can just hot plate whole pcb all at once without the need for manually holding individual components if you decide to try and design/make module for that board I can help with PCB USB Camera! saw it on YT last week, neat 😀 https://github.com/jdredd87/Wolf3D-V30 private repo I wanted an optimized playable Wolf3d on my V30 box....on real hardware 2.7fps seems quite fast already for 8086, around same perf as Doom8088 Doom8088: Doom on a 286 / 8088 might be bottlenecked on amount of video data moved 1 pixel per byte, https://github.com/jhhoward/WolfensteinCGA seems to be almost 50% faster on slow computers maybe thanks to packing pixels I wouldnt let LLM burn $ leaving it to "innovate" on its own. Id start by instrumenting engine and gathering detailed timing data from main loop to identify hot path and real bottlenecks. For all you know it might be optimizing useless meaningless things one at a time. This is a good read "Writing Rust code that's faster than state-of-the-art libraries by asking agents to make the code faster" https://minimaxir.com/2026/09/agentic-iteration/ https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49803085 :] "just try harder bro" in a loop seems to be unreasonably effective against LLMs 😁 Those might be useful to adapt for your project AGENTS.md https://gist.github.com/minimaxir/86de3cc8f62 … 337e70924b3411d prompt.md https://gist.github.com/minimaxir/933cd6354d9 … 45be

Old hardware giveaway thread.

New in box/sealed Lian Li TU150 mini ITX case (brushed aluminum windowless model). Strong points of this case: pop-up carry handle, pop-off top for cable management, screwless design and very efficient front-to-back cooling (no fans or PSU are included with this case) for such a small space. This model is no longer manufactured and getting harder to find. Great for portability. Retailed at ~$150 USD. Was going to use it for a mini server, but laptop life for me. Filename Lian_Li_TU150_NIB.jpg File size 1.08 MiB Views 9 views File license Public domain Must have 500 posts or more here on Vogons. Post "claimed" below and list what build you plan to use it for (no Ebay flippers please). PM me your mailing address (lower 48 only). Free shipping as usual. This concludes my "downsizing my life" giveaways. Cheers!

Fake fullscreen issues

I don't know what fake full-screen is in this content, but in general if a game uses window borderless display mode, it will be treated as a fullscreen (exclusive) mode for GSYNC purposes. The windowed GSYNC mode was a hack for some Windows 10 apps that no longer really works. My experience is with a couple DX11 titles (iRacing, American Truck Simulator).

That's no good, but you should be able to distribute a patcher that will take an untouched dll, the new graphics, and a table, and produce your dll.

Velocity9x - Open Source Win9x VGA Driver S3/Intel GMA950/Rage

Super cool project! There were a lot of early graphics cards that never got good drivers. I always wondered what they might be capable of if they had better support. I look forward to reading more about your progress and watching your videos. Any plans to add support for the Nvidia Riva 128?
