It's been a crazy ride in BC politics the past month or so. Usually BC politics doesn't make too much ripples in Ontario, but this is definitely registering. My take-away is that this is just more confirmation that PP's brand of conservativism is dead on arrival. He celebrated KLF's win, and celebrated that certain other conservatives lost in the leadership race. I used to routinely buy Government of Canada bonds. One of my purchases, 20K face value, will mature tomorrow. I bought this in 2019 at 1.95% yield (after fees). It's delivered the guaranteed 1.95% return. Since the purchase date, the global economy almost had a total collapse and the bond retained its value while stocks crashed in 2020. I had no idea this was happening. The federal government has given bailouts to: Porter Airlines Air Transat Flair These are loans at subsidized, artificially low interest rates. Supposedly it's to help with fuel prices. But I would be concerned if it's helping to keep badly-run businesses alive. And isn't that unfair to Air Canada, if they are able to operate without a federal subsidy? AC has to compete on ticket prices with all of these airlines that are being assisted by the federal...
