That’s been my experience as well. Berkley gulp has a firetiger minnow in 2.5" that works pretty well when I get too frustrated with the perch.

I prefer real crawlers for Walleye bait, but if you are constantly getting robbed by Perch and Bluegill switching to Berkeley minnows works pretty good and cannot be robbed nearly as easy.

In my experience the rainbows will generally be in the top 20’ of the water column, so when targeting walleye, I don’t get large numbers of bows. I am not the walleye expert, but have been working on my walleye skills the past couple years. I seem to find most of my walleye on the bottom though sometimes I have found a few suspended again near the bottom. At DC the perch annoy me when I’m targeting eyes on the bottom, bait theives. I have also seen schools of perch on my electronics suspended most anywhere in the column. Right now walleye are a bit challenging. Hopefully the bite will pick up with cooling weather. Surface temp yesterday was 64* at launch.

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of that lake where the SM bass was caught. I was thinking about the record catch and release SM that Bass rods caught at Jordanelle.

The Utah state record largemouth bass weighs 10 lbs, 2 oz. and was caught by Sam LaManna at Lake Powell in 1974. The Utah state record smallmouth bass weighs 7 lbs, 6 oz. and was caught by Alan Iorg at Midview Reservoir (Lake Borham) in 1996.

I use slider weights so I had some lines with 2 oz and some with 1/2 oz so we would have been anywhere from 5-20 feet deep, all the lines were getting hit equally so it didnt seem that the depth mattered much. It was more the color. I started out with pink, orange, green, and purple lures and the pinks were hit far more than anything else so I switched everything to pink and had hits all morning.

We’ve been fishing these neap tides the last several days, where the exchange is only a foot or two but the low is +3 or 4. It’s like a glorious slack tide that lasts for 6 hours but you have to wade way out on the beach and stand in 3ft of water. I was releasing a coho when everybody started yelling. Looked up and a sea lion (not a little 200 lb harbor seal but a sea lion) had poked his head up 10ft away and was sizing me up. It’s one thing to have them steal a salmon from the end of your line. A whole nuther thing when they take it out of your hands. I’ve never unhooked a fish so fast.

Utah State record is a bit over 10 lbs.

Great report! You said you were long lining. Were all the fish in the top 10’ of water or so?

A 10 # Largemouth would be a monster but realistically a 6 lber has been caught by a member on BFT at Mantua. Another member caught the state record small mouth from jordanelle but I can’t remember the exact size, seems like it was 8 lbs but don’t quote me on that.

What would be a realistic trophy Large mouth, and Small mouth bass in the state of Utah?
