So we are coming to the end of the season here, just one more weekend trip I think, and it's been the first with OpenPlotter running. I thought I'd comment on how it's gone. Last winter I upgraded the electronics onboard, replacing everything but the wind sensor. That meant almost everything was on NMEA 2000, but the wind and exhaust sensors were NMEA 0183. The Pi handles the conversion for these. The MacArthur HAT has the IMU and power module on it. I had been using OpenCPN on an Android tablet previously on this boat as the plotter, so the plan was to use that tablet with the Pi, and feed it Signal K data. Once I'd started playing with things though, I switched to using AVNav mainly on this tablet, and that has been excellent. The good things: Things have been mostly very stable. OpenPlotter was easy to set up. I've had great fun tinkering. I have really loved AVNav, once I'd got my head around it and configured. Having the ability to access the same system from mulitple devices has been a game changer. I only used OpenCPN once and that was when I first time had the router I'm using drop out and reset, and it was not at a good time to trouble shoot things so I just quickly ran the app on the tablet to get the chart data back - that was quicker than digging out the paper chart The not so good things: The IMU has been very disappointing. Dear All, Having run into the socketcan issue, lost npm when trying to follow possibly outdated fix instructions, starting from scratch again with the OP4 stable img, but finding that it isn't possible to use that as-is due to running into the pypilot install issue and not being literate enough myself to climb out of all those holes... would it be possible for the pi imgs referred in the documentation links to be updated with versions that work out of the box please? I do want to use OP for the advantages of low power, joining different systems together and lot of functionality, however it seems to me a bit too hard to achieve atm! With regards, Simon

I want to set up AIS on my Raspi 4B (version 12 bookworm, aarch64) using an RTL-SDR V4 dongle and have the SDR VHF app (version 4.1.0) installed on OpenPlotter (latest version). In AIS Settings (when Edit is selected in the SDR VHF app), what should the Port be (10110 is greyed out) and should the checkboxes be ticked for "Enable AIS reception" and "Share with AIS-catcher"? Further, I'm calibrating the AIS for use in Australia and none of the Bands listed in the drop down menu operate on Australia's mobile phone network anymore. Any suggestions on how I deal with this? Also, the SDR VHF app no longer appears to have a "Processes" tab, so how do I start the AIS running? Finally, do I need to add AIS as a new Connection in OpenCPN settings? If so, what should the Address and DataPort be? Thanks for your assistance!
