gpldavie: Is this really news? Consolidation wise does make sense, like how we saw Nintendo merge its hh & console divisions, or SEGA with its AM & consumer teams or how SEGA merged the likes of AV/Smilbit, Sonic Team/AM1 With the number of FPS studios inside Xbox, maybe it makes sense to merge Halo studios with id Software or the likes of Raven/Sledge & the same for Turn 10 & Playground games Pain in the short term, but I think for the greater good going forward. Making better use of what we got & a fitter & more focused development group for Helix Yes, this is news. How would it not be ‘news’?

As others have suggested, it’s likely Bungie wouldn’t be doing this if Marathon hadn’t flopped - it seems maybe they get bored of franchises then move on (Halo, Destiny) so Destiny would’ve been dead and buried. However if they do this well, I admit I might fire it up at some point to play through some of the expansions I missed (and to give Mars another play) as the gunplay is reminiscent of Halo (as you’d expect) so is fluid and fun. If they survive to make Destiny 3 I’m guessing it’s going to be 2031 or 2032 at a minimum
Widey85: …ey play completely differently though, I don’t want the godawful sweaty CoD shooting forced into Halo which has a very different feel, plus you’re playing a huge guy in shielded armour not an unarmoured special forces soldier that dashes around. In the same way I never want Gran Turismo driving in Forza Horizon or PlayStation’s “you’re playing our story, you have no choices” approach to the Ghost series forced into AC Shadows (or their other misery porn games into RPGs such as Fable). Just because some studios make games in the same genre, I don’t want them forced together as that way we get bland mismash games that appeal to no one - they’ll likely lose their unique points. Also while yes it’s not news that more layoffs were coming, we didn’t know when so it’s news that they’re starting now I get what you’re saying, but Halo Studios is in a mess. I mean, we’re 6 years in & they still have nothing ready in terms of a sequel to Halo Infinite & had to ditch their own tech It’s hard to think of a worse run AAA studio these days, other than maybe Naughty Dog

Jeans: …Good review Jesse. It seems to be compared to Alien Isolation a lot, maybe because of the stealth and the mini CRT monitor. There’s not a lot of reviews for it right now, surprisingly. I thought that was becasue it was made from former CA/ Alien Isolation staff. Really looking forward to this, love the setting to the game

Haven: …e. Google shut theirs down and Amazon is winding down LUNA. We can gauge the revenue from year to year to see the performance and this while not showing profit shows growth. Also, the 3% you keep saying does not factor ABK and Gamepass and we know consoles are sold at a loss. Gamepass has grown. it went from generating between 2 to 3 billion to 5 billion, that my friend is growth, it literally almost doubled what it was generating. I bet Phil did sell them on Gamepass subs going up but I bet they were expecting to sell a lot more consoles which became an issue because of cost. How do you subsidize consoles if you have to also deliver a 30% margin? The 30% made selling consoles an issue and I bet they were betting huge on having an Xbox store app on mobile something that never materialized. But we can use data & figures to back up one’s argument. I mean if it’s true that Steam only has 47 million concurrent players in a day, I’m sure console user numbers can smash that in a day & we’re always being told consoles are dead When people talk up cloud, we never hear how many players it can support, but always how it will be the future & yet Xbox Cloud can’t handle 40 million players & one expects it to be the future of gaming? I thought the 3% did include Gamepass since that is part of XBOX & yes you may talk of going from 3 to 5 billion, but you don’t factor in how much Game Pass HR costs have gone up with the massive investment & games taking ever longer & more money to f
Consolidation wise, given the suggestion is they’re mostly in Xbox studios, I’m guessing it’s maybe Turn 10 into Playground? Can’t figure out any others - also talking about more going under Activision, I wonder if they might move Playground and maybe even Rare under them as they both have live service game specialties. Also I fear the GP changes may yes make it Day 1 from Xbox only, with top ups for Bethesda and maybe not one at all for Activision, so moving Forza Horizon under them would make everyone have to buy FH7…
Any CoD influence on Halo, or a future where Halo campaigns are sidelined for pure multiplayer games aren’t Halo games I’ll play
Putting Halo under ABK actually makes sense. They’re the only ones still hitting that “feature complete” 3 year turn around cadence that Halo used to have. Fuck it, use Halo to get off those sci-fi game ideas that COD fans balk at. Give us ODST as Black Ops, Master Chief games as MW, and repurpose the Infinite Warfare concept with the UNSC Infinity as your ship. Make a multiplayer suite with the expected modes plus a warzone mode and you got a winner.
MasterChief: Man, FF7 Remake for 10$ is too good to pass up, Idk if I’ll be able to truly play it consistently soon but for 10$ it’s a steal. It has a character boost mode where you can boost your stats and just breeze through the game.
Welp, Halo’s future is even more uncertain now, I really wanted a sequel to Infinite at least to finish it off with some kind of ending, sadly 343i was given too many chances to fuck around with this IP, after Halo 5 there should have been a total overhaul of that studio and everyone at the top should have been fired, hell it should’ve happened after MCC’s horrible launch instead, still don’t understand how Phil Spencer and company just allowed this studio to remain untouched for so many years while they slowly killed Xbox’s biggest IP, unbelievable.
