I've been thinking about this a bit more over the last few months. I completely understand why golf clubs to maximise visitor revenue. If people are willing to pay £150 or £350 or even more in some cases for a round then that is up to them. That money can contribute funding towards improvements, machinery, staffing, clubhouses and securing the long term future of the club. Moved to Raynes Park in the “Apostles” area, and am looking for recommendation on where to play. Looking for a proper course within 30 mins (ideally 20-25 mins). Coombe Hill was outrageously expensive (and the person over email seemed clueless), while Royal Wimbledon is much more reasonable, but it has a 4 year waitlist.. Coombe Wood/Wimbledon Common/London Scottish all seem poor. Thinking maybe The Drift or Effingham or something along those lines? (Although never been to either).

Round our course on quite a few holes driver isn’t the shot. You’re looking for a couple of hundred yards and the rough is deadly more than a few feet off the fairway. I usually hit a 5wood and th3 gets me between 190 and 210 yards. That’s great, but when it’s a decent head wind it just kills my woods. I can easily be down to 150 yards (or less). Hi all, I'm currently a member at Foxhills in Surrey and looking to join a new club. The problem I'm having is all clubs in the area (Woking, Worplesdon, West Hill etc) require a proposer and seconder from an original member to even get a sniff at the waiting list. I appreciate the tradition and reason for proposers, but struggling to understand how you can access long term memberships at these clubs without an existing relationship.
