I have recently inherited what I believe is a k98, but I have no info at all about this rifle. All visible markings seem to have been scrubbed. This rifle seems to be sportified? Not sure when or by whom. I found a few markings when taking the gun apart. Any info at all would be appreciated. I’m not sure what caliber this is even chambered in. I found one at a LGS. Not a 1920 Weimar date mark, but rather a 1912/14. Is this a significant variant or some post-war foreign refurb mark? The gun is not in great shape, not matching, but it’s all there in proper Kar98az form and not bubba’ed. Didn’t see Turk marks, but I didn’t have much time to look it over close.

When I took it to the range, I had an interesting failure: The firing pin punched straight through the primer into the case, causing case rupture and release of gas. Bought this off GB. It was missing the bolt and I had a bolt from a lot of 24 bolts I bought off GB a while ago. So I was the only bidder and the rifle was in very nice shape, better than the pictures. I still look for these rifles and had about 6 when they were very cheap and CAI was still in VT. While waiting for my Mexican M1936 short rifle to be delivered, I have come up with some questions. My rifle does not have a crest and it seems that a noticeable percentage of M1936 rifles are reported to be without crests. I'm hoping that if I collect serial numbers some questions may be answered. The serial number of my M1936 is 21144 without a suffix but it has been restamped. I suspect the original serial number had a P suffix. I read about one rifle that had a M1910 receiver with M1936... Won an auction for this handsome Gew 88/05 without realizing the sheet of metal that covers the en-bloc clip is missing. Was it supposed to be there? Will the rifle still function without it?

Picked this up on Friday and appears to be an unfired Ruger “Old” Blackhawk chambered in 30 carbine. Date of manufacture was 1972. What confuses me is, as the photo shows, the box is marked 7 1/2” barrel but the pistol has a 4 3/4” barrel. I can only find 1 reference to an old GunBroker listing which has this caliber/bbl length and it’s an old one with a dead link. It appears that these were never produced with the short barrel. My Uncle Cap was in the 12th Armored Division during WW2. His son, my cousin, Mike was a door gunner in Vietnam. Cap died in '94 leaving his things to Mike and his brother Butch. Mike died of covid in October 2020. Now Butch has been referred for lung cancer. Neither Butch nor Mike have any kids and there is no one to pass their legacy on to. I was in the Army and I collect WW2 militaria so Butch gave me all of Mike and Cap's things. Here we are in 2022 and I have just inherited this...
