Thanks Ekiben, enjoying this!
Day One (Part 1/2) - Morning Train to Marugame It's been 10 months since my most recent trip to Japan in November 2025, and my trip report is well overdue. As was the case on my Spring 2024 trip, I began this Shikoku Pass tour in the early AM in Matsuyama. Rather than doing out-and-back day trips from my in-laws' place, however, I opted to go long and ride across the island and around the Muroto Peninsula via Takamatsu, Tokushima and the Mugi Line, then back along the Gomen-Nahiri, Dosan and Yosan lines. I rode some trains for the first (and last?) time, saw some interesting sites and got much closer to my goal of riding the entire JR Shikoku network. Let's get on with it. I had hooped the blue scaffolding was a sign of better things ahead for the old Matsuyama Station. A renovation and renewal perhaps? Little did I know, this would be the last time I'd see the station standing. The station has since been completely demolished and a massive redevelopment plan has been announced for the site. My well-worn JR Shikoku Rail Pass. The ticket is still a good value, but definitely lacks the cachet of the booklet-style pass I received on my 2024 visit. Through the station's new turnstiles and up to the raised platform for the 7:20am eastbound ride aboard an 8600-series Ishizuchi/Shiokaze Ltd. Express. I'd yet to ride the 8600 and was surprised to learn it's not even new anymore, having been introduced in 2014! Relieved to discover the new station still offers my train breakfast stapl
Majority of it is just photos each with a brief description. Not too difficult to follow for most people...😀
Thanks for sharing! Brings back memories of the old area.
Finally got my 9 module station (Kato island platform DX) assembled. Everything is all wired up and running nicely. The luxury train trifecta (along with the 7 Stars of Kyushu)

There were 11 locomotives exported in 1952: https://www.drehscheibe-online.de/foren/read.php?017,10979920 But I don't have any information to where exept that they went to coal mines.
Personally I think it's okay that the number of wheels are reduced just like the number of doors and windows, but there's a Japanese guy who has been motorising with the Tomytec TM-28 motor unit for those interesting in trying something with bogies. He's done a number of videos on the subject, which I haven't watched. Here's one of them:
Likewise. I’ve had a look and other than the Reddit post suggesting some Gmeinder locos may have been imported for underground coal use in the 1950s, I haven’t found any information on if so, what they were, where they went nor whether there’s a static display somewhere. The main coal areas were Hokkaido and Kyushu but there’s a chance a unit could be displayed at a head office somewhere. Very little to go on.
