Not all tourmalines from Abuloo are copper-bearing and while some other do contain copper, the color is mostly due to iron. However, some truly are paraiba-type: colored by copper and with neon blue color. This one had a good medium tone and was quite neon. I've seen some better ones at the Hong Kong show. True vivid electric blue.

Some pictures I have seen look awesome, others look like normal indicolite. I don't understand who the end customer is for this who cares so much about the trace element content--I mean, I love that stuff, a lot of us do, but what wealthy end customers? I do believe the best copper colors are better than the best iron, but anything short of that seems a bit redundant.

I finally have seen the ethiopian paraiba with my own eyes. The top material is really impressive; it does look like the ultra fine brazilian paraiba. Price tags are absolutely eye-watering too. Will the market and the end buyers accept it or not, we shall see.
