I attended a local train show today and met up with the owner of RMT, Walter Matuch. I do a lot of painting and decaling of locomotives for Walter. Great guy! He let me know in advance he had some stuff for me. When we finally ran into each other at the show, he handed me three of his new three bay hoppers. There are this kind of threads in other forum. Starting one here to see what all we do in model railroading. This is a model that is working but just needed more work. It is an Intermountain FT that needs some work to get it back in shape. On the shell, it was missing horns and front coupler. New horns came from Kato parts bin. Roof holes were reamed out with #64 (~0.91mm) drill bit. Front coupler is a MTL 1015 out of my parts stock. While working... What's on your work bench?

I bought an Automatic Gateman #145. When I got it home I immediately attached the two wires coming from the bottom to a test transformer. The little guy came in and out as expected. My wife loved it (that's important but I won't go into that here). Now I need to wire it so he only pops out when the train goes by. The salesman at the local Lionel store talked me into buying a section of 027 track specially designed to replace the pressure contactor. He said it will work much better and tried... I pulled out 2 MTH locos from storage, one hasn't been run for 3 years and the other 5 years. For both of them, a couple laps and they both are in the jerky motion. They both slipped 3 traction tires each. One was a fairly modern MAC 70 Ace and the other an ancient very early PS-2 Dash 9. The MAC 70 was an easy replacement, on the other hand the Dash 9 was a royal PIA. Have to pull the shell, have to drop the motors then you can remove the screws holding the whatever it is called to get to... PIA rubber traction tires.

Well, I’m not really sure what happened to my original thread on couplers seems I can no longer post in it but just a follow up I’ve made a decision thanks to the advice of Daniel C. I am going with Kato 11-702 couplers for all rapido replacements and evemodel for body mounts, they are very much compatible and work very well together. And no tiny springs required that go flying all over the room.

Does anyone know where I can source small brushes to clean old grease and dirt out of the drive gear and motor gear of my MTH EP-5 engine?

I have a MTH Premier DC-3 Rail Inspection car # 20-2242-1 with a blown PS-2 five volt system, can I replace it with a functioning PS-2 three volt system.

I just purchased a pair of K-Line O31 path Super Snap switch tracks. At first the right hand switch was operating perfectly, but now won't do anything. The left hand switch keeps chattering, no matter which configuration I connect the controller wires in. I've checked to see that I have the insulating pins in the control rails.
