Hi, here comes a new experiment and, I hope, big(!) discussions about booting XP SP3 x86 on a x64 UEFI system without requiring CSM in the motherboard BIOS firmware. I noticed that it is easy to start a csm.efi file just from an extra partition on a normal HD. So the idea is: x64 UEFI firmware ==> csm.efi on HD ==> 16-bit BIOS environment ==> MBR ==> original NTLDR ==> original Windows XP SP3 Via this way it should be possible to keep nearly 100% compatibility with original XP SP3. And now step by step for dummies like me. ;) Dietmar

Hi MSFN Community, I'm sharing a set of custom modded AMD drivers targeting the AMD A9-9420 APU (Radeon R5 Graphics) with full Windows 7 compatibility! There are two package options included in the download: Dell Edition (amd a9420 modded.zip) — Specially modified for Dell OEM laptops. Retail Edition — Modified for generic/retail hardware setups. IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: You MUST use the INF installation method via Device Manager ("Have Disk..." option). Running a standard setup.exe installer will not work for this modded driver. Installing manually via the .inf file is the only way it will successfully install. Notice for OEM Laptop Users: If you have an OEM laptop with an AMD A9-9420 APU and are testing this driver, please check Device Manager and reply with your Hardware IDs (VEN_1002&DEV_...). Hi @Dietmar @ages2001 has been working on a scsiport miniport Generic AHCI driver for NT/2K/XP. They asked me to test it out on my hardware and we've gotten it working in NT and in 2000 and XP when using the standard HAL and MPS Multiprocessor HAL. However we've run into trouble when using the ACPI Uniprocessor/Multiprocessor HAL in both 2000 and XP, when using those HALs no drives are being detected. Hi MSFN members, I am setting up a Dell Inspiron 11 3185 running Windows 7 64-bit (SP1). The laptop features an AMD A9-9420e APU with integrated Radeon R5 Graphics (Stoney Ridge architecture). Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_98E4&SUBSYS_087F1028 Target OS: Windows 7 64-bit (x64) The Issue: Official AMD driver packages omit DEV_98E4 from Windows 7 x64 INFs. I attempted manually adding the hardware ID under [ATI.Mfg.NTamd64.6.1], but Device Manager fails to match or bind the driver correctly (setupapi.dev.log does not register a valid driver node match). What I Am Looking For: I am looking for guidance or help from experienced driver modders on patching an AMD Catalyst/Adrenalin 64-bit Windows 7 package (such as 17.7.2 or similar) so DEV_98E4 is fully supported with working hardware acceleration. Once a working driver package is verified, my plan is to archive and preserve the final working solution on the Internet Archive for anyone else attempting to run Windows 7 on Stoney Ridge APU hardware.
