Last weekend I demossed the roof and got most of the gutters done so this weekend I worked on the yard by disassembling the parts car, Eric, a fellow I met at the CarBBQ came by on Saturday to help and see what he might want from it. After looking at the rust holes in the windshield opening I went to removing the cowl top from the parts car first, this makes cleaning a breeze but I don't recommend it, now I can get at the wiper pivots, next it was the rad support. Saturday we lifted up and removed the rear suspension, cut off the outer wheel houses and discussed what other parts he wanted. Sunday I put the front on stands and dropped the cross member and steering components. Eric wanted the floor under the rear seat so I remover that and was able to get a socket on the bolt that is the park brake lever pivot where it connects to the rear subframe cable. I found a pallet to put the parts for him onto so it will be easy to load them up next time he comes by. Next weekend more yard work, I'd rather this than splitting firewood.

You mean the rubber part? Loosen the engine bracket bolts. Maybe loosen both sides and lift the engine.

Forget about California Datsun never ever hear anything good about them. L16 uses a 210 head with small volume combustion chambers. Any other head will be larger and drop the compression. All L series L4 heads have the ID along the bottom edge on the spark plug side. The raised 210 numbers are along the bottom edge between the number one and two spark plugs.

Ok, thanks. I don't believe the assembly has been tampered with and I think that any internals are original (drive for the needle or whatever). I'm guessing that the threaded part sticking out just broke off somehow...I'll try epoxying it in place since I don't see any other original method of attachment. It's just weird that it looks to be a completely separate piece from where it's supposed to be with no obvious attachment. If I'm not missing anything then I'll just try to "fix" it

Been restoring an '84 720 dually over the past year or so, and had assumed my truck just didn't have power steering because it's a 2wd. I've found a lot of conflicting information about the dually variation of the 720, but I believe it's a heavy duty and has some variation of the Z24. Was looking at the Haynes repair manual for something else in the steering system and noticed that I should have power steering (which makes sense because turning this thing is much harder than I'd have expected with just manual steering), and I confirmed that there's a power steering pump with two lines connected to what appears to be a steering box. The steering column has a tilt function, if that helps point anyone in the right direction. I haven't dug into it yet, and am looking for pointers if anyone knows common issues that may have caused this to stop working. and saw on a different thread that not all power steering components will work on other variations of the 720. Pump attached to the block/serpentine belt has fluid in it. Any help would be appreciated!

In the Atlanta area. Having a shop rebuild an L16 on my 2 door '70 510 while I'm deployed. Shop called and said the cylinder head had some bad corrosion and would need a new one. Any recommendations on sourcing one rebuilt or just the core? Searched classifieds, no luck. Did a generic google search- California Datsun came up, but I've seen some bad reviews. Not looking to do any modifications. Trying to restore to original as best as I can so I'd prefer not to use any of the other cylinder heads. Thanks.
