60 Days with no Rest Days

I was referring to different types of training that I’ve tried. I love riding my bike. That’s why I did the challenge. To gain a new perspective with an old friend. (My bike.)

2026 XC Bike & Equipment Thread

I am intrigued by the new Canyon Lux Trail and think it could make a pretty badass XC bike with a few modifications. Advantages over the Lux World Cup include (IMO) better geometry, no headset cable routing, in-frame storage (an advantage to some) and a threaded bottom bracket. Good looking bike too. A pity no frameset option … Lux Trail | CANYON IE

Strava making up a power PR after my trainerroad workout

I ran into this weird bug today and I am wondering if it’s something the TR team could help me with, or is it strictly a Strava problem. Today I had a custom workout, three sets that start with 3min at ~8min max power and then 10x30/15 afterwards. I did one set but was totally gassed, likely because I have been sleeping very bad these past few nights with a 4-month old baby. I decided to make it slightly more palatable by just doing 2x10min suprathreshold instead of the 30/15s. Here’s the workout on TR and intervals.icu, all tracking exactly how the workout went. Now comes the weird part. I did 404W and 402W for the 10min sets, hard but manageable. However, Strava makes up that I did 417W instead! Does anyone on the team have any idea what might be behind this? I have never done 417W for 10min, I mean I probably could if I did an all out 10min effort but I didn’t even come close this workout. I don’t understand where Strava is pulling this number from. The only guess I have is that I am using powermatch with my Quarq powermeter since my Kickr power meter reads a bit high and is unreliable; could Strava somehow “get hold of” that falty data? If anyone has similar experiences, please let me know!

The recurring late-season question: How should I plan my off-season?

Hi there This questions come up every autumn, but as far as I can see it has not been touched in this forum or in the podcast within the last few years and it would therefore be great to hear what the most recent model data and research, if such exits, say about how to structure the upcoming off-season (at least for the northern hemisphere) for us non-pros. Of cause, I can just create a TR plan, add my main events for next season, and follow that plan. But it is the most common deviations from what TR suggests I thinking of, as well as whether or not to include one (or maybe more??) prolong periods where I do something completely different than just keeping on biking in some way. What does the model data e.g. say about doing weekly e-bike races during the winter? They are for sure fun, which can be importen for the motivation, but are they also physiologically efficient or maybe even counter-productive compared to following what TR suggests? And, what does the model data say about replacing a weekly session on the bike with running instead? Also, what the TR model does not automatically suggest is if it would be beneficial to skip riding for a few weeks before kicking of the buildup towards the new season, and if so, what should those weeks be spend on instead of riding? The question is meant to be generic, but the answer might depend a lot on who you are, so here is a tiny bit about my self: I am a 41 years old father to three children, married to the mother of these childre

calboy: I wasted a lot time and effort on something How can it be a waste if you enjoy riding your bike?

How do you determine your training for the winter?

I have not quite finished my season yet. Got one more event this weekend. Then the plan is. A short transition period to mid October with no structured training. Have a short tour planned. From mid October start a base period at about 60% of my peak summer build hours. Include strength build in this period From late January start a build period. Reduce strength to maintenance My main season next year kicks off in March and my current event plans run till end of August. With one A event in May and one in August. It is a long season. If I start build too early, it’d be easy to burn out. Thus a nice long winter bike base with strength build helps set a solid foundation for what is to come. I ride ultra distance / duration. My main focus over winter is the traditional easy volume, building it back up progressively. I include a sprinkling of intensity with some sweet-spot at the end of a longer endurance session but usually just once a week, with a VO2 session being substituted in for the sweet spot once a fortnight.

wyl03: Imagine if you raise your FTP to 240W and you continue to ride at 50% of FTP. At 120W, you’ll be faster overall. Only if you have the durability to do so. Most people can only express a quoted ftp when fresh, and have never done it beyond a few minutes. The OP could be riding for 50-70 hours with very little rest. That could represent 6 or more months of their training hours in 3-4 days if they are low volume. What they could do in the first hour or two of PBP when fresh does not make much difference if they cannot maintain it. I have seen many rider who was fairly fast at 200km, but it did not scale and as they went up to 300km, 400km, 600km, 1000km, 1200km and beyond. They got much slower, and riders left in their wake on the 200km finished well ahead of them on the longer events. If you can build an engine that is both fast and durable so it scales over distance and duration then you have the best of both worlds. But it is a mistake to assume an 800m runner will also be good at the marathon. To use an analogy.
