Fork Oil Specification

Rebuilding the forks on my Gen 1 since the seals blown on the right. Trying to figure out what fork oil to use; manual specifies Suspension Oil 01, but it seems expensive to source, and I cant find any info on how many oz actually come in one bottle (which are like 35$ before shipping) Anybody here had success using more common fork oil? Referencing this chart it seems the viscosity isnt far off from 5W, but I'd prefer to hear from someone with experience before I give it a go... Read more

Snatchy clutch

My clutch is very snatchy, almost like a switch. It’s lubed and smooth but still snatchy, it’s a 2001 1000cc with 23,000 miles on it. Engine running, in neutral and pull the clutch lever there’s a slight whirring from the clutch housing. Apart from this, it’s great! Thanks in advance. PS I’m a firm believer of “if it’s not broken don’t fix it” so while it’s working so well I’m not going to take anything apart looking for a problem but when it comes time to ‘fix’... Read more

Brake lever range of motion too short?

I have a 2012 FZ1 in my possession, and I feel the range of motion in the front brake lever is very short. There is no flee play at all, there is about 1/4 inch of motion to full squeeze the brakes, and maybe an inch if I squeeze real hard. Is it normal?

EXUP valve and slip-on pipe

Hi, I'm considering a slip-on from Yoshimura, TRC . In the installation instructions they say that you have to disconnect the cables from the EXUP valve, and I'm wondering if that's such a good idea, since this valve is there for a reason. Has anyone disconnected the cables, and then experienced a performance loss ? I read that the valve is almost closed at low revs, and the servo opens it up as the revs go higher. If you disconnect the cables, doesn't it mean that the valve never opens... Read more

2008 fz1-sa

Howdy folks, I have a frustrating problem and I need yalls help on this. 2008 fz1-sa From a shop who got it used from previous owner. It had sat for a few months. No known history of accidents. the bike was only turned in for a few minutes at a time at the shop and appeared to be fine. It did come with an immobilizer emulator and I have added a exup dummy plug. No error codes related to either. Work done: Fuses all replaced Relays appear to be fine Tank flushed with vinegar, cleaned... Read more

FS: 2003 Yamaha FZ1 Bumblebee - Chicago, IL USA

2003 Yamaha FZ1 32k Miles $3,500 obo You are looking at a well maintained first generation FZ1. I've owned this since 2019 at ~16k miles. Many have come and gone but this bike remained in the stable the longest because it's such a fantastic bike. It's been all over the country and never set a foot wrong. Selling because my days of spending extended periods of time away from home on long distance rides are over. Very reluctant to sell because truly, there is no other bike out there like... Read more
