I live in south florida and I am considering setting up a pond in my backyard. It will be 12' long, 3' wide, and 2 or 3' deep. What kind of filtration or water pumps will I need for this? I plan on keeping 4 alligators (NOT, just kidding) some turtles and maybe a couple large fish. Thanks

Is there anything wrong with these kits? They are only $78. I think they are maybe 50 g and have a filter/pump and small water fall.
I started a thread last week or so with my experience in regards to buying some fish online. It was the first time I had ever purchased fish by mail order and I was blown away by the speed and efficiency of this particular transaction. The seller had the fish in the USPS's hands by 0930 on a Wednesday and they made it to me, ~1200 miles away by ~11am on Thursday. Per the tracking info, actual transit time was like 12hrs from the time they left the seller's USPS to my doorstep... Read more
Hi guys, I have a 2 months old 20L betta tank that has 2 pieces of wood plus a dragon stone as main hardscape. 1 of the wood pieces have been in my various tanks for over a decade where as the other smaller one was added with this new tank 2 months ago. After I trimmed the stem plants I uncovered an area of the wood where I noticed green Beard algae growing on the new piece of wood. It a small amount and I don't really mind it at the moment. But I am curious why it is growing only on that... Read more

Hi all- I've noticed in my son's tank that he has some sort of growth in the gravel. It kind of looks like brown cotton candy? Pictures attached. Is this algae or something else? I can suck it up when I do cleaning/water changes, but sometimes it clumps the gravel together into a mass, which makes it too heavy and prevents it from being sucked up. I end up having to pull it out by hand. ET
Can I run an external Iwaki pump after the Fluval FX 6? This is for a small Koi pond with a waterfall feature. I am not sure if the pump on the FX6 will be enough for the waterfall.
I’m looking into ways to keep a backyard pond cleaner, especially when leaves, grass, and other debris start collecting on the surface. I’ve been considering Pond Skimmers as a way to remove floating debris before it sinks and creates more maintenance work. For anyone who has used one, how much difference did it make in your pond? Did you notice easier cleaning or better water clarity? I’d also be interested in hearing what size skimmer works best for different pond sizes. I’ve been... Read more
I was reading Tropical fish Hobbyist Magazine and I went directly to Takashi Amano section to look at his aquascapes. I noticed in his data of his set-ups, he adds aeration for 14 hrs after lights are out. I would like to know for any other reason besides off gassing CO2 and creating more O2?
This won't be one of my normal slow build up journals. This tank has to go from being a lake tang tank to a planted tank in the next week. The plan!! I am going to have some sort of lighting and uh plants.... Ok, I haven't figured it all out yet! Here's what I have so far though... Stuff I have 58g Oceanic RR (36x18x21) w/ herbie overflow Oceanic Stand, which I had to stonecraft cause when it was given to me it was brown with nicotine, yuck! 20g Sump no baffles, with media... Hi everyone, I’m setting up my first freshwater aquarium, a 20-gallon tank. I added rinsed gravel, filled the tank, and started the filter yesterday. The filter has been running continuously, but the water is still noticeably cloudy, almost like a light white haze. There are no fish in the tank yet. I’m planning to cycle it before adding any livestock. The filter is rated for a larger tank, and I’m using a sponge pre-filter on the intake. My main question is whether I should leave the...
