Are you going to buy a drum of oil for the old car and store it at the cabin as well? Maybe you can use it to barter with the fur trappers at the trading post?

MikeInNH: The initial upfront cost is high, but if electric rates stay where they are (which they won’t) the payback is 7 years. I have a typical suburban house with a gas furnace, 30 years old, 2500 sq ft, family of 4. If a solar installation costs $15,000, it would have to supply ALL of the electricity I use and sell back that much again at the same rate to have the payback be 7 years. Are you able to sell back to the grid the same amount you use, at the same price? I see the payback being much longer than 7 years, and many people won’t be in the same house that long. 2 years until my youngest is out of high school then we will downsize, then probably somewhere else after retirement.

Some people wash their hands after going to the bathroom, some people wash them before.

Where on the shop premises did you perform the checks - inside the bay or out in their parking?

TheWonderful90s: How did that affect the electric rates of other customers of your electric company? So far nothing. By far the biggest factor around the country affecting electric rates are data centers. Nothing else is even close.

bcohen2010: My advice is to buy a used 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla for your vacation home. Say that in 10 years the instrument cluster stops working due to bad capacitors, the engine control isn’t far behind, the CV axle boots need to be replaced, the plastic portion of the radiator has cracked, the engine mounts need to be replaced, it needs an oxygen sensor, the power steering pump and rack are leaking, and various parts of the window regulators, door handles, or power locks need to be serviced? Not saying the Corolla is a bad choice, but maybe an older car would need even less age related maintenance.

texases: First thing they replace on all the '60s and '70s cars on Fantomworks is the rotted/cracked/missing rubber in the suspension, front and rear. Modern plastics/elastomers are much longer lived than that old stuf No they don’t. Look at all the sub 10 year old vehicles needing control arms because the bushings are cooked. My Caprice had original rubber bushings and they were still serviceable unlike a 2018 a coworker has that needed new control arms because it was basically undrivable due to bad control arm bushings.

Old-Days-Rick: Oil does not go bad, it also can be used to barter. It can go bad if not sealed. The oil will absorb moisture if exposed to air long enough.

jtsanders: And Las Vegas too. There are about 40 solar farms near Las Vegas, the largest produces 690 MW. Fly into Indianapolis Airport and look down. It’s one of the largest solar farms in the world and generates over 1/3rd of the Airports electricity. They expect to be 50% by 2030.
