I've been thinking about where the MyBB development niche is heading with AI getting better at coding. One thing that stands out to me is themes and plugins. A lot of MyBB projects are relatively small compared to building an entire forum platform. A site owner might want a custom theme, a small plugin, a template modification, a few extra features, etc. With AI coding tools getting better, I wonder if we're going to see fewer people actually hiring or commissioning developers for those kinds of projects. For example, someone who has never written a MyBB plugin before can now explain what they want to an AI coding assistant, have it generate a starting point, test it, fix errors, and iterate. It obviously isn't going to replace someone who genuinely understands MyBB's architecture, PHP, security, hooks, database structure, compatibility, and maintenance — but for smaller projects, the barrier to entry is getting much lower. At the same time, I don't think "vibe coding" is going to make experienced developers irrelevant. If someone wanted to build or heavily modify an entire forum software, deal with a complicated plugin ecosystem, maintain a large codebase, solve architectural problems, or build something that needs to be reliable for years, I'd still expect experienced developers to be extremely valuable. So, I'm wondering whether the market eventually splits into something like: Small themes/plugins: increasingly DIY with AI Simple customizations: AI-assisted by site owners
