Need some advice on a planer. I have a 1989 Taiwanese Powermatic P100, which is a 12 inch planer. I really dislike messing with shop tools as in adjusting them and fussing with them. I can do an excellent job getting them set up, I just don't enjoy it and I hate it when things have phantom bullshit happen - set and forget would be my preference. Want to get a spiral or helical head so I don't have to set knives. I've been researching options and I feel like I'd like something better than a... Read more
How sketchy is a side mounted motor on double-ended duck skiff at hull speed? I have heard you have to be smooth with your throttle control of side-mounted outboards on canoes. I’m imagining something like a Cattail railskiff (47” across the rails) with a 1.5-3 HP on a side mount. The reason I ask is because I pole a lot and a transom forces me to stand further back than in a double-ended hull to push straight back. The outboard is always in the way unless I can get over it on a platform. A... Read more

Spent part of the weekend preparing one of my blinds for the upcoming season. Mowed areas to put out decoys, pumped out the pit, and brushed up the pit top. On a side note--I have had this pit for 5+ years now and yet to shoot a duck or goose from it. Making it a goal this year to get some sort of waterfowl species from it!! Have shot lots and lots of ducks and geese from this property but never one from this pit--always from a layout boat, layout blind, or another sort of temporary dry... Read more
Monday I got a call from one of my granddaughters. She informed me I had a new great-great-grandson! Made my day and then some. So blessed.
Dark side if you are a wooden boat enthusiast. Actually I have boats of several flavors, each has it's strengths. The strength of my latest acquisition is it ability to run my shallow local rivers at anytime during the year. After much research, I recently purchased a Havoc DBST in a 1756 configuration, powered by a Tohatsu 60/40 Jet outboard. The boat is all I expected to be. My local river is so low right now, this new rig is the only powerboat I own, which can get me down... Read more
Anyone have any tips on building a "triangle head?" I think Steve Sanford had a post w/ a picture awhile back...Just picked up a new 14' section of Ash and I just don't want a duckbill but find myself in mostly slop mud and heavy vegetation.
