What old Code cycle would you keep of NEC forever if you had a choice?

A debate cam up about the unnecessary changes in the NEC over the years etc.. Where its not a safety focus book anymore that is more politics and money making products. One guy went so far as to say that the 1996 NEC is really all that was needed for the safety, with only local amendment for a solar if that LOL 🤣 because all the expansion of the gfci and afci , tamper resistant receptacles crap he says was not needed. I think 1996 is going back to far lol, but I think I did like the... What old Code cycle would you keep of NEC forever if you had a choice?

EV Charger Thoughts

I would like some input from the vets in the forum. Went to an estimate today. Older 200 amp panel. There are double taps in the panel, all the tandem spots but one are taken, two electric ranges, two hot water heaters. The house is 2800sqft and the basement is finished and that is about 500sqft. My gut is 80 or 100 amp sub panel to make room for the new EV circuit and to clean up some of the double taps in the main. My struggle is the load calculation and what size charger to recommend. I... Creating a control circuit

Wondering if anyone can help me create a control circuit. I have a 50lb wax kettle. I’m looking to create a series of controls for the kettle. 208V/30A/3ph. A start timer. (When activated the kettle would start heating at a specific time. 15m, 30m, 45m, 60m etc.) A secondary stop timer. (Once started we want to set a control to turn off the kettle 15m, 30m, 45m, 60m, or longer) Then I need a 3rd control to be integrated at the unit. A temperature probe that will serve as a secondary... Creating a control circuit

Apprentice responsibilities

I was just having a conversation and we were talking about apprentices. I just hired a new one (he starts in a few weeks) and I was talking about how hard it was to find someone who wasn't a 35-40 year old who was 'rediscovering themself' and wanted to be a first-year millwright apprentice. It was crazy difficult to find a young guy who wanted to work. During the conversation I mentioned what I consider to be the responsibilities of an apprentice, and in addition to showing up on-time and... Apprentice responsibilities

What's the best money you ever spent?

For me, it was probably my Ram Promaster cargo van because of the freedom it gives me to live the life I choose. What about you? What's the best money you ever spent?

Generator installers please school me.

My business is in a rural area and I’ve had a lot of homeowners contact me for generator installation because they can’t find anyone else to come out. I was not a generator dealer up until a couple months ago but I have installed 15 or so over 2-3 years. I’m a licensed electrician, but winged it on the generators. Buy the generator, read the installation manual and install. No big deal. Never being around a seasoned installer I didn’t have anyone show me the tricks of the trade. Most... 3 wire Wye primary

I saw a piece of equipment yesterday with an isolation transformer feeding a heater bank. It hasn't been installed yet but the transformer is kinda unique. It has a 347/600V wye primary to a ungrounded 347V delta secondary. Has anyone ran a Wye primary without a neutral? Does it not care as long as the load connected is a balanced load and the primary windings are all under equal load? Mostly asking because I don't want to pull a new feed to it as the feed was spec'd to be a 3c not a 4c and... 3 wire Wye primary
