Hi Geoff, The chap I bought it from had owned it for around 5 years, he then put maybe 2.5k miles on it, only 100 in the last years. The owner before him had owned it for 30 years and had restored the car in that time. It seems to drive ok, I have put 35 miles on it already and will have it out tomorrow, there is of course a list of jobs to do: Speedo bounces, it's an S1 unit, right ratio but not sure how to proceed, I have a GPS unit on my GT6, would like to have same but £££. Screen wash jets - for some bizarre reason the PO fitted the jets but didn't fit the tubing, have read every post I can find, looks to be a bit of a 'mare to fit now, will prob take dashpad off and assess further Fluids - will change all Hoses - have bought silicone replacements Choke knot light - will replace tomorrow Blower motor - neither speed works, need to investigate whether direct supply runs motor or not I love the car though, I didn't run my 2+2 as a 4sp for long before OD 'box fitted by Angus, every classic I've had since then has had OD, so I keep trying to engage it on the FHC. I'll get used to it, it's a much more relaxing drive than my heavily modified GT6 (199BHP, twice standard power). My car's interior was refurbed as part of its restoration, the limited use has kept it in great condition, the car is in BRG with light green interior, the combo work very well. Ian
Welcome back, Ian. Tell us more about your not exactly new car. Fully roadworthy, bright and shiny? Or requiring a touch of TLC like you have used before? Happy new E Type motoring, at least you’ve experience of the smile on your face as you drive and admire your car. Geoff
Hi Ian...Great to have you back and active....Steve
Hi All, I've been a member for c.15yrs but, having sold my 2+2 around 10yrs ago I've been quiet since then. I have just bought a S2 FHC however so I have returned to the fold. Great to see so many familiar faces still around. Ian
Thanks for the update.....Steve
I just had an email to say the next Jaguar spares day is 11th April 2027. Steve.
Thanks for your reply Craig. Strangely my car has been running really well in the couple of months I’ve have it back from the specialist, it’s only since yesterday I’ve noticed the rough running and unevenness under acceleration. I’m not sure what would explain that other than the change in temperature and humidity with the change of season, or a problem elsewhere? Cheers, Marcus
That is the thermostaic valve whose main purpose is emission control. There are early and late version and minor differences if your car has a manual or auto transmission. It is shown in the upper right corner of this page from SNG Barratt's https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/us/F ... mbly/18158 As your sits now, you have one or more vacuum leaks; the various ports are activated by engine temp and -- I think -- RPM. I would ensure your "specialist" replace the vacuum lines as original. These may help / / I replaced mine with a housing from a 1971 V12
Hi all, Could someone please let me what the pipe/cable with the white plastic wrapping around it and the back of the right side cam cover in the top photo does? Reason I ask is that I’ve noticed it’s missing since I had some engine work done by a specialist on it recently and I’ve noticed it’s not there now. It is a 1972 New Zealand spec car so I assume it’s the same as UK spec. Many thanks, Marcus
Hi marek, that’s correct it’s the gas in the shock that keeps the oil under pressure always, it’s up to around 67lb of force at which point it levels out or the shock remains fully extended in the open position. so in affect I suppose it’s like have a combined 130+ pound of lift on the front, albeit because of the geometry it wouldn’t be a direct lift. None the less it seems it would make an increase of about 5-10mm, according to those that build them. Not ideal for a straight forward replacement. Thank you
So what you are saying is that when compressed by hand, these shocks rebound all by themselves and the length they rebound to is longer than the setting link length (or the current length the ones in your car sit at at the moment). kind regards Marek
