write random values in an array. In helpfile of [block~] [pd switch-bang] shows an easy way. Or fill the array with [tabwrite] by banging a counter and [random] with [until] which is fed by [array size].

good, fixing it
@formuls Thanks! The Pd patches for Toetsingen are on https://www.hansroels.be/toetsingen.html To clarify: I maintain the Mimba synth on github https://github.com/Haroes/mimba It has a stable and 'most recent' version. Additionally, for compositions and performances (like Toetsingen) I have made specific versions of Mimba. So, if you are looking for a documented and more or less 'tidy' version of Mimba, I guess the github stable version is the best choice.
not sure what you need, but I could look into and add one to ELSE
@jameslo I just combined all your patches into one and they all behave like yours! I don't know what was going on earlier, perhaps a typo in [expr]? But I guess it wouldn't have been created. Now the numbers are toggling between 255 and 256 and 0 and 1.5258e-05, like your screenshots.
almost 2 years later ... @ewanbristow pointed me to some recent tools for max that utilize the fractional fourier transform (thanks!). noting this here in case someone stumbles upon this post some day: https://behzadhaki.com/works/max/frft/
