Restoring 1975 glasply 2300, bilge question...

Ok, so I picked up a 1975 glasply 2300 to fix up... thing was rough, and as I tore into it, even rougher... i could just scrap it, but I like a project, so im gonna just overhaul it as a long term project. I pulled up the deck a started chasing rot. And all the stringers are rotted all the way up. Ill be replacing them with laminated honeycomb panels. My questions come to the design of the bilge, though... since i am redoing it all, i can make adjustments, and I was confused by how it was... Read more

Can’t close cowling on 2000 BF130

Hi, I recently purchased a 2000 Honda bf130 and I’ve never owned a Honda before. I got the motor with the cowl off and I can’t seem to figure out how to get it to close. There’s something preventing the front going down. Is there a trick I’m missing? View attachment IMG_7084.jpeg

Wood stove install

Getting a nice small old wood stove for the shed/shop/office. Raw set up so thought i'd post pics and ask questions here. It is small, shed and stove. Shed is 10x16 and stove is 21x20 and 24 tall. No insulation, will never have it, just to have fun and burn scraps and twigs that i fish out of the yard. plan is to build a raised platform in the corner of the shed and of course cement board in everything. Thinking pipe angled up to center of the gable end and poke... Read more

Yamaha tilt/trim not working, release screw broken.

Recently purchased a 2006 Yamaha F150. Boat has always been tied to a dock in the water. Bottom of motor mounting bracket covered in barnacles. Tilt/trim motor works but won't go up or down. Someone has broken the head off of the relief screw. Will removing the motor relieve pressure so the motor can go down? How can I get this thing to move? I can't even seem to beat the mounting pin out of the bottom to remove the tilt/trim. Anyone ever drilled out the pressure release screw? Any... Read more

Seat removal to access front of engine SL222

Hello, I am considering purchasing a 2009-2012ish SL222, but I would really love to understand if the bench seat infront of the engine compartment is removeable? Access to the front of the engine would be much easier if this seat comes out. Does anyone have this model, or successfully removed the seat for maintenance?

2018 Mercury 40 EFI – rhythmic RPM surging at WOT after 5 minutes – video

Serial 1C563963 , runs perfectly for ~5 minutes at full throttle, then RPM oscillates very rhythmically about 2 cycles/sec , no warning horn, immediately clears if throttle is pulled back and reapplied, but returns. I've tried a completely different fuel tank, bulb, and bypassed the fuel/water separator, same result. It just started randomly the other day, any ideas?

1985 Bayliner 2750 Ciera Sunbridge Resto

Been a while since I posted on this site, but I've been happily boating and fishing in the meantime. I've always wanted a trailerable weekender/cabin cruiser, and have been looking at local ads for one for years now. I found this boat from a friend working on the sellers' place who just wanted it gone. The other project boats in this category near me all lack trailers with much too high asking prices. I have this boat bought, I just have to replace all the tires and check out the hubs... Read more

Hot Take: A boat wheeled and waxed in spring is no different by fall

Walking the boat yards in the spring with the boats on the hard, it's impressive to see the shine some of the hulls have after a nice wax job. Especially from ground level looking up at the hull, it's super impressive. However, if you walked the docks in the Fall and viewed the boats in their slips, I feel there is very little difference between a boat waxed in the spring vs other boats which have not been waxed in several years. Agree?

Boats from work.

I work in a repair shop, so I get a bit of variety in the kinds of boats and damage I see. This is just going to be a thread of stuff I think might be interesting to look at.

6hp Nissan 4 stroke with broken water tube

my 6hp Nissan has a broken water tube up in the power head, I ordered a factory service manual but it will not be here for another week. My questions is do I just remove the six bolts holding the drive shaft housing on or is there something else I need to release to remove the lower drive shaft housing. The lower unit is already removed. Thank you Robert

1983 Starcraft Islander

So ever since i seen one for sale and missed out I have been looking for a good fixer upper, i found a 22ft Hull is in good shape, appears to have been sitting inside, the add noted they had started replacing the floor which is what I figured I would be doing over winter regardless, but it has the 470, My question is are these engines really that bad or is it because they need to be properly maintained as most engines should be regardless. I am looking for a budget boat to work on this... Read more
