Lopi, PE or Regency wood insert and what size?

I am excited to get a wood burning insert for our house. We had a free standing Lopi Leyden and LOVED IT, but it was too big for our space! We dont want to make that mistake again, so I have 2 questions...size and which one? Current house has a fireplace in it, we already had someone out and it can fit an insert. It is located in our family room that has a 2 story ceiling and the fireplace is on an exterior wall. The house is about 3,000 square feet, my hope is we can use the insert to... Read more

New Drolet spark 2 installed!

Hello, I just finished installing my new Drolet. I love it but I have some questions about the duravent DVL to allfuel connection. I used the all fuel through the wall class A kit and duravent Dvl interior pipe. The pipe setup seems really great except for the dvl to class A connection. There's no way to use self tapping screws without piercing the inner pipe. I'm not to crazy about this connection. I'm sure im not the first guy to run into this. Anyone have a good method to secure this... Read more

Dutchwest FA224CCL - Couple questions?

I was recently given this stove, a Dutchwest FA224CCL. I'm hoping to swap it out for my Englander steel stove to Lord willing achieve a longer burn time with the cat, cast and slightly bigger box. So far I have replaced the door and glass gaskets as well as the top plate gasket (holds the cat probe). This morning I got the top off it (thanks to a comment on this forum which talked about the connection on center front under the top) and today will work on the flue gasket. I've ordered a... Best wood stove using 6" pipe with low horizontal outlet

I have used VC and CDW stoves most of my life. I read constantly in this forum that VC is problematic due to EPA related design issues? I'm in Maryland and secondhand market is flush w VC. I loved my CDW smallest version, 1990 model, but man that burn time was short! Now have a 1890s house, 6" flue, 18" at bottom of 6" horizontal flue. For those of you who tear up VC, is there a better option that doesn't jut out into the room (mine is 12' deep w an interior chimney). I'm a second hand... Read more

Road trip camping with a large family

We are on vacation and planning next years trip. We have five kids and a 2011 Honda Odyssey that was just paid off with lifetime warranty for anything not rubbery. We pulled a small pop up tent trailer one summer with 3 kids. Got a big tent and camped with four for a 4 night trip(but didn’t cook at the camp site cold breakfasts grocery store lunch and ate out dinners.) Now that there 7 of us we want to keep camping. And want to plan a road trip to the south west in the next few... Read more

Looking at FPX 36 Elite

Hello all from Northern Michigan, lurked for a little while, but might be my first post. Had local FPX installer and a builder both come out the other day to look at adding a 36 Elite Nexgen hybrid in my house. About 2100 sq ft, the unit will be installed with the face flush with an exterior wall, a bumpout made for the unit and chimney. Small hearth, non-combustible mantle, and still hope to have room for the TV mounted about it all. Installation probably in the springtime. It will be... Read more

Wood stove boot on metal roof

Hello all, I am building a camp in central VT. We're about to install a metal seam roof. We have an old wood stove. What type of boot do we need to put in place before the roof install? The roofer wants us to have the boot in place before hand. The roof is a 12 pitch and it's an old Vermont castings. Thanks!

Scratching my head raw about my short burn times

I'm only getting about 2.5 hours of burn on my VC Encore 2040 CatC. I'm getting tired (literally) of setting my alarm 3x every night just so I don't wake up to a cold house. I'm hoping the oracles here can tell me what's going on with my stove. Someday, I'd like a good night's sleep. Here's the bullet: Before bed, I make sure I have a stable stovetop temp between 450 and 600. That requires the bypass handle forward (Cat activated) and the damper set at about 3/4 closed. I top off the box... Read more

Should I to use outside air and purchase an OAK?

We're awaiting the install of our Hearthstone Green Mountain 40 along with an interior chimney later next month. I'm trying to decide if I should install an outside air kit as our 9 year old home is fairly tight. This stove has a 3" OAK available. Unfortunately, our stove will be installed at an angle near a wall (but not in a corner). The back of the stove may be ~1-2 feet from the outside wall. I just found an Energy Standards test that was performed on our house when it was built. Here... Read more

Refractory Access Cover Encore 2040 from 2013

My refractory access cover is split in two. 1. Can it be mended, for example with Rutland cement? 2. If not, is it important to replace it? 3. Does anybody have a good one, prefereably in the UK or Scandinavia? Many thanks.

Econoburn nozzle

Hi All Just was talking to Econoburn. They are still in business building pressurized boilers. I need a new nozzle at some point and looked at their online store, but their shipping options are not friendly for me as i am so far away, tried my Alaska address as well and shipping exceeds the price of the nozzle. I had planned to make a mold to cast my own as i figured the shipping would at some point get to expensive to justify OEM It comes to over $1000.00 canadian dollars to get one... Read more
