Hey Group! I've been a Gibson player since 1992. And 99% of my guitars over the years have been Les Pauls. I've owned one Explorer, which was great, but huge, and 2 different SG's which i didn't care for. One was an SG Special Faded with mini humbuckers and the other was a new Epiphone SG Standard which had ridiculous neck dive. I picked up this 2024 Gibson SG Standard last weekend at a guitar show for a great price, and thought maybe I'd give SG's one more try, now it is quickly climbing to... A good SG?!?

Hi all! I recently picked up a 60s standard and I noticed a tear-out on the fretboard today. I should have noticed it when I went through the guitar at the store but I had blinders on. I'm inclined to return it but I wanted to get some outside opinions. There's a lot that I'm willing to overlook because Gibson is, Gibson; but a tear-out from what I've experienced can turn into a much bigger problem down the road. It doesn't help that there are large streaks of very open pores on this board... New LP - worth keeping?
I thought it a good idea to have a tips n' tricks thread for the shop. Any kind of shop trick, jig, jig-making, step-saving procedures or simply how to do things right. I'll start it off with a quick tutorial on how to cut a Nylon 6 nut. Feel free to add your tips and tricks, useful tips here. *Note* -if it involves a several-page tutorial, we'd prefer if a link was given to a thread instead of full pages posted in here. Simply start a thread, put your content in. Then go out of... Luthier's Tips, Tricks And Tutorials
We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform! It's been a long time coming. Let's face it. Sometimes, older forum technology lags behind other parts of the internet. Although seeing the same format for a long time is comforting, the member experience shouldn't include dealing with outdated, unsafe, slow software. The transition to a new platform will never be 100% smooth, but the days of dealing with out-of-date forum software are over. We have teams dedicated to... Is anybody using a 1 meg ohm volume pot on a Les Paul neck pickup to brighten it up?
I have a question on how the neck joint is configured for flat top guitars, particularly the Korina explorer. I have always noticed that the fretboard appears to ride flush to the top of the body at the neck joint while also following the neck break angle. I am wondering how this is achieved? I know there have been some discussions on the forum previously on whether the neck pocket is angled or flat but my question is more aimed for how the top of the body is configured to allow the... Question on flat body neck joints
Anyone here know much about, have owned and / or played the V1 or V2 MIJ Traditional 60s Strats from around 2020-25 and 2025-present (I think). I’m thinking of getting a V1 in Lake Placid Blue, and know it has the 7.25” radius neck vs 9.5” of the V2, plus a normal fender nut width vs narrower of V2, and not to mention a few very minor aesthetic differences, but are there any other differences of note with the V2? There seems to be no good info out there in pickup quality, or even if there’s... MIJ 60s Traditional Strat version 1 vs 2
Hi, I’ve bought a few sets of pickups from James at ReWind Electric in the past and in my experience he’s been extremely helpful and his work has been amazing. So I recommend him to a buddy who bought $1,700 worth of pickups and wiring last November 2024. As of today, December 30, 2025, not only has my friend not received the pickups or wiring, but no one at ReWind Electric is responding to his emails or phone calls. On top of that, it looks like the website has been deactivated. I... ReWind Electric Pickups - Not responding?
I need a custom made amp panel. Anyone know who makes them?
Hello everyone, I have been somewhat absent from build threads of late, so I will try and catch up with 4 guitars in one thread. Over the past 5 yrs or so, I have been infatuated with the Gibson Modernistic guitars and the history of how they were introduced. After their introduction they were abruptly resigned to obscurity which is what made them the curiosity they are today. Why were these guitar designs produced in the first place? Gibson's president at the time Ted McCarty wanted to... The Modernistic Series - Flying V, Explorer, Futura, & Moderne
Just a feeler on this one, it's not a priority to sell, but if someone wants it at the asking price.... it's gone. @LtDave chambered my favorite R8, so I don't really need this one, but you know how it goes, lol. Gibson Custom Shop '58 Reissue Les Paul. This is a chambered CR8 model. It's a bit rare as it's not a plain top. Great figuring on this one. The pickups have been replaced with Jimmy Page 1973 Madison Square Garden humbuckers. The wiring has been replaced... Gibson Historic Custom Shop R8 - Chambered Les Paul 2008 - Darkburst
Got this little beauty on the bench for some maintenance. Bought it in '98....killer sounding portable rack mount mixer. Pots are dirty, all connections need cleaning.
