If you've followed the hooptie journey at all you may remember the infamous "Texas Holdem", a rust free fresh paint white late 325iS I had shipped in from TX that "just needed a few small things". I lost a year of free time to that car after it turned out to be a basket case. After moving that car along I had a broken spirit, but the void for a nicer coupe remained. A few weeks ago a buddy in southern IN reached out saying his brother's Alpine over Cardinal '87 325iS might be available soon, and that I should come down and take a look. He sent a few photos and I did just that. It has been sitting for a while after the engine mounts failed and oil pan cracked being loaded onto the transport truck, so it's desperate for a detail. I'm going to put the correct transmission in the car and clean it up over winter to see what we might have. The car is rust free and has mostly original paint as far as I can tell. I looked it over pretty extensively for accident damage and found nothing. They already did Konis/H&Rs, staggered Alpina wheels, and generally looked after the car pretty well. Pretty excited to get this project underway! I figured this one deserved its own thread. Untitled by bimmertown , on Flickr Untitled by bimmertown , on Flickr Untitled by bimmertown , on Flickr

Looking to sell my 1990 325i 5-SPD. I bought this two weeks ago as a project car and my wife is having nothing to do with it so it needs to go. engine and transmission are in great shape, as is the diff, although the diff bushing is worn out so there’s a clunk when shifting. On the interior, the comfort seats either need re-upholstered or replaced, and the carpet needs a good out of car cleaning. The glove box is missing. The fuel gauge works intermittently, and the knee panel (~$60) is missing. from a rust standpoint, the firewall, footwells, rocker panel, and pinch welds are all free of major rust with only minor surface rust on the pinch welds. The trunk pockets have minor non structural rust. The left pocket has minor surface rust that’s easily reachable. The right pocket has more rust, and I haven’t removed the battery tray but pushing with an awl from the underside yields no weak spots or punch-throughs. the car was in a minor front-end accident in 2006 (long before I owned it), and likely needs a new front valance. The radiator support was hammered back into place, but appears mostly mostly cosmetic. There is no visible damage to the firewall or the tub supports under the front fenders. this is a mechanically sound car with need for some body work and tlc. I’d prefer the car go to a good home as rust free examples are hard to find these days, but I’ll part it out before I end up served divorce papers so there’s that… carfax available for serious inquiries. $6k OBO Phot
WORK IN PROGRESS Here's a description of the history from my project car and the build process to get the stroker running. Beginning 2009 18 years old, just got my driver's license and was looking for my first car, I always had a week spot for e30's but was also considering the mercedes 190, vw corrado, Audi quatro. I was not very technically handy during that period but had some friends who were and a dad who's job it is to fix mechanical things, so enough support from that side to buy and fix/maintain an older car. Eventually decided to choose for an e30 316i, a friend had the same car and I liked how it handled. Looked and test drove an 316i shitbox with a worn cam first, I was pleased, but was immediately warned that it would be a financial disaster by my dad and friends. Later my mom found a car on the internet, a 1991 316i edition with around 190k km on the odometer, we went over there, looked at the car that had been sitting still for around 3 months, car was covered in bird shit, weeds growing underneath, brakes were stuck. Somehow the car started right away, only took some extra effort to get the brakes to release. After a few kilometers during the test drive the car started to drive as it should so at that point my dad got out and I was allowed to take the car for a test drive. Car seemed fine to me, so I bought the car and that was the start of this project. 2009-2026 316i edition m40b16 The car I bought is an edition version, so special upholstery, sport steering
Hey all! Long shot, but I'm looking for an early model roller around the Charlotte, NC area that someone wants gone. I have a chassis that has lived a hard life so I'm looking for something so put all my good parts in. If you have something like that, shoot me a message!
Is there a proven integrated twin ear factory cast diff cover (or billet aftermarket) for a 325i 188 diff ? or do i need to use one of those separate bolt on billet pieces? if so which is the goto brand? Can people share their experiences with attaching the mounting brackets to the body and any traps to be aware of?
It all started 20 years ago, I was tired of my unreliable Audi. I had a 2001 A6 Quattro 2.7t 6-speed that was always having an electrical issue. I traded it in to lease a 2005 A6 Quattro 3.2 auto. It picked up where the other car left off. The icing on the cake was during a road trip from Florida to Virginia and back. We were driving up for my son to buy his first car from a friend of mine, it was 1991 325i that needed a LOT of TLC. We were worried it would not make the drive back to Florida. Not only did it make the trip, the Audi broke down in North Carolina, the stealership refused to give us a loaner, after 2 days of waiting they told us they had no idea what was wrong and it was going to take a couple of weeks to fix it. We loaded the E30 and drove to Florida. They kept the Audi for 1 month. The wife and I few up to Asheville to pick it up and spent a weekend in Savannah. More elctrical issues cropped up on the drive from Savannah to Florida. The lease was up in 3 months we parked it and let the stealership deal with the problems after we handed it back. The moment the lease was up on that POS I handed it back and bought a E46 330i. I was so impressed by the Virginia E30 I decided to grab an E46. Then I had the chance to purchase Rammstein's E30 off of here and did. That was 12 years ago now. 4 years ago I purchased a R53 Mini, that would be the 3rd time I have owned an R53 now. That one was a rescue story. 3 years ago I purchased a F10 M5. I will add to this thread when

I haven’t shopped for this car for a long while. i didn’t dig all that deep, but I’m seeing big gaps in availability in basic maintenance parts. Example - Not finding much in reman rear calipers for the ‘86 es. I hate to devolve to buying from RockAuto. They have Nugeon remans. But ECS, FCP, Pelican, the regulars - not too many parts listed. Where are you all looking for OE stuff? Thanks -
I bought my car earlier this year with MST TE37 reps, bronze on bronze, and I've never really loved them, but the wheel style grew on me. The bronze lip turning more green was not something that grew on me. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a chip on the lip revealing the aluminum underneath, so after doing some research I decided to strip the bronze clear coat from the lip, sand, polish and ceramic coat. The first wheel was way more work than I expected, even using a chemical paint stripper, but the end result is so much better.
Hey guys, I apologize if this is not the place to post this but it's been a minute. I have a line on a Wiesmann removable hardtop for my 91 e30 vert, but ai is telling me: "Instead of using internal vertical pins like the OEM top, the Wiesmann unit uses custom-engineered metal mounting plates or "hooks" that secure down to the rear side deck lid area. It utilizes heavy-duty tension latches or bolts to pull the fiberglass shell tightly down against the car's body lines, compressing the bottom perimeter gasket to seal out water." The thing is, this seller's top seems to have pins that look similar to the OEM pins. And another pic shows two pins which I'm not sure about are they front mounting latches, I don't know, and I am buying from a different city (see pics). Can anyone tell me what gives here? tia...
As many people know the standard exhaust system for a 325i m20b25 is 2x45mm. While this diameter is sufficiënt for a bone stock engine, producing around 175 hp there is a point where it would choke the engine. Most of the time NA builds with up to around 200 hp will not consider larger diameters, i’ve seen 2.9 stroker builds with around 230 hp running 2x45mm. I’m now at the point where I have a m20b27 stroker producing 201 hp. The exhaust fitted is a standard 3-piece system in a rough state, so I’m looking to upgrade this one in the near future. I’m now researching what would be the best option, should I go 2x45 mm or 2x50 mm for this build. So a full system with equal length headers, probably supersprint full system. Future upgrades will be a standalone ecu, to het rid of the stock LMM, and CoP or wasted spark. Cam is a schrick 272, so mild street upgrade, I’d like to keep the torque because it’s a street car. 2x45mm will keep the torque, maybe a bit more and will add around 10 hp I suspect. 2x50mm will probably drop the low end torque bit will add it later in the rev range, I suspect. Does anyone have an idea what the best option will be, and at what point it is best to switch to a larger diameter exhaust, are we talking around 200 hp, or more in the range of 230 hp? looking forward to reading your views and experiences.
