Moving to Paris from Athens

Generally your income must be at least 3x the rent. In the first month you will pay a security deposit. You may have to pay several months in advance because the market is so tight. I paid 6 months in advance in Chars. It isn’t supposed to be legal, but it is done.

The continuing threat of Le Pen

Dan1: The trouble with the type of thinking MAGA or RN or ..or ..or .. is that they keep changing the target I’d argue that they don’t - it’s more that once they get into power just who the target really was is revealed, and when legislation is introduced to target “foreigners” it is not usually drafted with a protected group built in. Farrage has all but promised a totalitarian state to “fix Britain” - you can guarantee - along with slashing benefits, university places, stopping the boats by force, sacking any civil servant that disagrees with them, sacking any judge that disagrees with them (redolent of 1930’s Germany in a very explicit way those two points) and abolishing the Lords if it tries to stop them - that getting rid of legal migrants will be high on the list of things they will be doing.

The continuing threat of Le Pen

.. My point here it was not confined to just Germany ..Once the green light was given there , like minded people throughout Europe jumped on the bandwagon. Places we ignore include Romania ..and there were plenty in France with neighbour envy.

Hospital Appointment refused

It took seven weeks to get a death certificate for my mother in 2024 because the doctor fouled up the paperwork, then forgot and then the registry lost it all so yes, as you say, make use of the time before all the sh**e kicks in. Very different here in France and very quick too

EV - buy or wait?

You’re overthinking it. Though you could click on one of the other tabs for more detailed comparisons.

Hospital Appointment refused

Dan1: Do what you need to do and Then inform them That was the approach we took, better to apologise than to seek permission, though it briefly looked like it might have come back to bite us. Well, bite my brother at least. All done and dusted now but we had a few moments.

EV - buy or wait?

Waste of programming effort .. Cost price ,residual value , insurance and road tax .Anticipated maintenance ..all must be included . Also what is missing is …any State imposed revision of the milage allowances .. I fully expect that a yearly MOT or NCT or whatever the country calls an annual compulsory car safety check will include odometer reading and a cost per mile

The continuing threat of Le Pen

Dan1: That is exactly the same sort of thought processes which the Jewish community had in 1939 Apparently many people told my grandparents that they were foolish to be planning to leave Germany since they were professional middle class Berliners. They left it late to actually leave, and sent my mother to Switzerland, but got out when so few of the rest of the family did.

The continuing threat of Le Pen

That is exactly the same sort of thought processes which the Jewish community had in 1939… ..and many people in the USA feel today. The trouble with the type of thinking MAGA or RN or ..or ..or .. is that they keep changing the target

NIMBYism (plus a dash of racism) alive and well in Oxfordshire

MoulinSarlat: Brexit is responsible for a lot of things but this isn’t really one of them. The average per year sent back between 2008 and 2020 was only 560 per year. “For example, in 2018 the UK made 5,510 outgoing requests and successfully transferred 209 people out” It was widely held to be a significant deterrent to people even trying to cross the channel in the first place. Franglais: That is true, but the cutting of info sharing means that those who fail to get asylum in the EU, now get a clean sheet to try again in the UK. Previously finger prints and other info would have been shared, that is now mainly for serious crimi als apparently Also another Brexit own goal.
