Has anyone here made this exact switch recently? I'm dosing All For Reef and my dKH is a pretty steady 9.5, but I feel my Ca is getting a little on the lower side so kalk or 2 part would be the obvious solution, but with the already higher dKH I'm kind of stuck. Will the blue bucket realistically drop my dKH by a full 1 or more so I can use kalk to increase Ca and hopefully keep dKH under 10? I'm also getting another ICP done soon as I feel I may need to dose All For Reef a little higher which would potentially also raise dKH as a completely separate issue of adding kalk or 2 part.

Adam, thank you so much for the pair of clowns. They arrived safe and sound and are in a bucket with a heater and an air stone until I can deliver them on Friday. Doug's and his students are excited about their new fish. We are still searching for more fish if anyone else has some. I can also trade out of my school tanks. Not much in there at the moment. Some gsp, zoas, ricordias, might have some cabbage. I'll have to make an assessment tomorrow.

I could upload revised versions for similar sized tanks, but I don't think scaling it for a 5.5G would be much less work than just remaking it. There may be an overall width parameter that I can tweak (I think there is a way to parameterize your model for later adjustments without the original software), but you don't have much more than 1 cm in either direction of width and other dimensions would be tricky to tweak. Just scaling down may be too deep for a given tank or too shallow to make good use of it and would thin the shell size (it is already on the edge of what my printer wants to do reliably to good height), and if you went much wider or narrower you'd need to adjust number of windows or redesign the spray bar, as you probably don't want dead zones near the glass. Possible, maybe, but a drastically significantly tank shape or size would probably just be better as a redesign. Breaking it into segments should work, but I would use some extra material on the outside edge of each joint to give more surface area to adhere to, and maybe pegs for some added stiffness. Could probably break into 3 segments with those parts and not be blocking return water flow under the shell. More directly on topic - two more settled today, making now 6 in total. Still have the second of the first batch, but settlement times in days have been: 99, 101, 103, 113, 116, and 116. From the first batch the second would be at 135+ days, while the bulk of the second batch is 117+.

Gotcha, that makes sense! And it sounds like you're doing pretty minimal feeding so there isn't too much suspended detritus building up in the water column to clog it. Might have to adapt my "terrified they might starve" approach, lol! Or figure out a way to make the current ones removable and add slots for a second set of screens with larger mesh to slide in next to them for the purpose of occasionally removing the main screens for cleaning and/or flushing out dead/oversize food items and detritus. I've seen some papers describing this method but don't remember how much detail they had for the actual layout. I took a look at the print files - I might recommend providing .step or .f3d as well so it's easier for people to scale as needed for whatever tank they're using while preserving the spraybar and holes. My vase setup is actually working really well currently for my sexy shrimp and porcelain crabs, but if/when my fire shrimp pair berry up, I'll probably try to make a proper kreisel for them. I'm fairly limited on space, so might try to scale down for a 5.5 gallon standard rimmed aquarium (which I'd remove the top rim from - I've done this up to 20 gallons with no issues, and while the edges don't look quite as clean as the proper rimless ones even after sanding, they're half the price and also easy to get secondhand!)

The first iteration and smaller windows and finer mesh had some clogging leading to just the two from the initial batch surviving in the long term, but while there is a little buildup it hasn't seemed to have negative effects and it comes off with any amount of scrubbing or reverse flow. I put it there because it was sort of a natural configuration of the flow pattern, having some water leave the vessel instead of continuing around probably slows the rotation slightly, and the spray bar directly above the mesh could batter anything accidentally stuck in it. I think it makes sense from a tank circulation point, too, since having water snake around the whole thing keeps it all mixed and sort of part of the whole thing. Flow is low enough that when I had the pump on the bottom instead of up on the side glass, the water above the pump was basically stagnant, not even mixing to 35ppt after many hours if you add salt and RODI and let it mix in the tank (that's still not recommended.)

I'm glad your jumper made it into another body of water! And the kreisel looks great, though I'll probably need to print it in multiple segments since I just have an Ender 3. The mesh looks like it's not removable - did you have any issues with clogging? I've seen other kreisel designs where the spray bar is right above the mesh so that it pushes any debris off of it. Any particular reason you decided not to do that?

They are very slow to settle. I'm up to 4, three from the second batch and only one of two from the first so far (an entire month from the first settling), but it seems like 100ish days is on the low end of settlement times, and the median is probably 120+ days. The biggest of the settled shrimp jumped - they are quite jumpy when you shine a light on them - but into the outside tank from the holding basket I've used, so while I've lost track of its growth, it was of sufficient size to probably survive and I still have the three younger ones. But the most important news, I've decided it's time to release my kreisel design. I've had some success and a good bit of testing on the design, and I think it can offer others a robust way of trying to raise larvae. There are usually a few members down that way keeping softies and LPS, so hopefully someone local will chime in and have something that works for your setup. It might also help to post a little more about what kind of lighting and flow you are running, along with what you are actually looking for first, whether that is zoas, mushrooms, leathers, hammers, favias, or something else. That gives people a better idea of what is likely to do well in your tank instead of just offering whatever they happen to have available. If you are willing to drive a little, the club sale and trade section can also be worth checking regularly, and local meetups are often a good way to find beginner-friendly frags without depending entirely on an LFS. You also get the benefit of talking directly with the person who grew the coral and asking how it has been doing in their system. After spending enough time comparing coral varieties, colors, and placement options, I sometimes switch to something completely unrelated like https://asino-casino.com.de/ Asino Casino, where slots can vary by theme, visual style, reel layout, and mechanics, while live games have a very different pace and presentation. A 24” cube can be a really fun mixed reef footprint, but I’m sure the 200g+ planning rabbit hole is already getting deep. Definitely keep an eye on the local for-sale sections and meeting threads — bigger tanks and equipment do pop up, and seeing other members’ systems in person is one of the best ways to plan what you do and don’t want.
