Anguirel and Anglachel are two swords forged by Eöl from an iron meteorite. Both are black in color, with a pale glow surrounding them (after Anglachel is reforged into Gurthang, the glow is described as pale fire). Eöl kept Anguirel for himself, so it will feature somehow in this season. Maeglin steals it when he and Aredhel leave for Gondolin, and from there its history is unknown. Do we want Maeglin to wield the sword in the Nirnaeth and the Fall of Gondolin? And where from there? Is it... Read more

Hey everyone, Sorry I haven't been doing much on the forums these last two weeks. I have been busy writing some music. I have uploaded two themes to YouTube, Iluvatar and Varda (the hosts said last session that they wanted some Varda music). The link to my compositions is to my YouTube Channel Philmen32 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwdIXVyVMjMEiaJTfuE3SBA They are simple leitmotifs that represent the beings, not fully fledged musical scores and are very much inspired by Howard... Our next broadcast will be on Thursday October 8th at 4 PM Eastern time. We will be discussing art commissioning. The goal is to discuss what challenges Season 8 presents for representing Beleriand visually, as well as how visual art reflects the theme of the season (survival) in the design choices. We can also talk about new characters, locations, and creatures and how we imagine them to be. The goal of the session is to challenge listeners to create their own art to represent Season 8.
SESSION 386 Her voice as falling silver: Three forms of the word “fall” are used in the fourth stanza, not only tying them all together, but allows for the use of both “F” and “L” sounds for alliteration on other words in the stanza. Comparing her voice to “falling silver” is an unusual simile, and seems to purposely use “fell”. The fourth stanza is unique in that all four end-rhyme words also have terminal “L” sounds. While the “L” sounds are very strong in the... Read more
SESSION 385 An Elven-maid there was of old: Most of the first four stanzas are devoted to describing Nimrodel physically, with the fourth focusing on her voice, though in that time, she herself is not named, only the river Nimrodel. In spite of the detailed physical description, hair color is not mentioned, only that it was long. The meter of the song is extremely regular, using common iambic meter, and much like Gimli’s song, which draws attention to the sound patterns... Read more
SESSION 384 Tales of Lothlórien: Like Gimli, Legolas will sing a song about their immediate environment that he knows from memory, while having never been in the land that the song was composed for personally. Also, Legolas is part of a people who left their original homeland to move to the North, though unlike the Dwarves, this move seems to have been voluntary, and also much longer ago. The decision to make Legolas and his ancestors Sindar seems to have been made during... Read more
Our Episode 2 Script Discussion will be held on Friday July 10th at 8 PM Eastern Time. Link will be provided when the time arrives. This episode will be a "part two" following up on the Dor-lómin storyline after Episode 1. Together, these two episodes make up the beginning of the season before we expand out into the wider story. Here is what needs to happen:
The next Silm Film broadcast will be held on Thursday September 17th at 4 PM Eastern time. My apologies for the short notice; I should have checked my messages before traveling. This one is on me.
SESSION 381 Smells like Elves: The virtue of the Elves that Aragorn is putting his faith in has to due with their power and influence over the land, not just goodness or benevolent intentions towards the Company. Bilbo had sensed this kind of virtue in Rivendell and processed it as a kind of smell to himself. This also echoes back to earlier conceptions of the relationship between Elves and the earth, particularly the air itself, and how that affected them, especially as... Read more
I just listened to session 225, and was surprised that one thing was not discussed about the charge laid on Frodo (the ring bearer). The two (three?) charges are not to throw it away, give it to the enemy or anyone else except the company (or council) at gravest need. However, I feel like something obvious is missing. There is no mention of destroying the ring, delivering it to the mountain, or even going there at all. Is this because the Quest of Mount Doom has its own separate charge... Read more
SESSION 383 Boundary issues: The crossing of the Nimrodel highlights the importance of the boundaries surrounding Faerie. Running water being one of the borders is a convention in the fairy tale traditions Tolkien knew. Tolkien’s original concept of the Black Riders was that they could not cross running water but seeing that as impractical for the distances they had to cross made it difficult, not impossible. Various traditions depict evil or undead creatures as being... Read more
As announced on the Music session on the 20th of August 2026 I have developed with my daughter a logo for creatives in SilmFilm to use. This is a way to tie together different creators under the project. I have already started to use it as my profile picture on the YouTube channel. Here are the final versions, one with a white background and one without. I will be placing the logo on all my SilmFilm music that I produce. You are free to use it as long as you are creating your artwork or... Read more
