I have never played or owned a guitar with fret nibs. They look as if strings could snag between the fret end and the nib, especially if worn or damaged. So what is the point of fret nibs?

Most of us here undstand these things, but many do not. Thus, a good primer is always warranted... From Lollar: DC resistance is a frequently misunderstood property of guitar pickups. While often mistaken as a measure of a pickup's output or perceived loudness, the story is a bit more complex than that. It turns out that DCR is an incomplete measure at best, and is often misleading -- especially comparing different pickup types. Beyond that, it's not objective, and is... Read more
Looking to buy a gold black Les Paul. I've been playing for 10 years and I haven't bought a guitar in 8 years (and even then I only looked at strats) so I am completely out of the loop. I've seen the Epiphone les paul custom which seem to be at a reasonable price, is it any good tho? I've seen conflicting reviews some saying it is an awful value other saying it is fine. I've also heard that the quality of Epis are not the best.
I picked up a mint condition Ceriatone 5E3 Delight at my local pawn shop for $355. I wasn't that impressed by the sound and I had heard of the Dumble Tweedle Dee Deluxe through The Amp Garage. So I did some research, found the Ceriatone Tweedle Dee Delight layout and the Rob Robinette layout. I also conducted a lengthy email conversation over a couple of weeks with Nik from Ceriatone who was a huge help in modding my amp. After reading several Tweedle Dee Deluxe threads on TAG, I decided to... Read more
This is just a post from an old guy... it might save you some money. I've been playing for over 45+ years, and used all manner of different pups (DiMarzios, Lollars, all the Gibby variations, etc). The advice: instead of buying new pups, try raising/lowering the pups. I did this recently on an R8 (57 Classics btw) that was a little too bright for my tastes... raised the pups... voila!. Got a little more gain, and tamed the balance to something I now enjoy. TLDR: try moving the current... Read more
When Mike sets up my live sound with live amps my rule has always been I own everything up to the amp's speaker and he owns everything past that. So when he asked me if I could put an A/B/Y after my effects I was a bit surprised - but like they say, "Always' start at curious." starting at curious I naturally asked him why. He said he wanted to try the amp sims in the PA software. I pulled out the trusty Red box and told him let's give it go. Medium sized club date so being a lazy-ass... Read more
sup all, seems like most gents here are of the marshall or fender ilk as their main amp, and not that there's anything wrong with that, but anyone using something other than the "Big 2" as the no. 1 amp with their Lesters? myself? tho for my "marshall" jones, i've got an 18 watt GDS "Offset" Plexi 18, these days, i'm mostly running Alessandro's and Fuch's amps from right here on the east coast. :dude
I know these won't be everyone's cup of tea here in PAF-land but I think they look interesting. My current guitars have about half original pickups and half aftermarkets like Wolfetone, etc. But I do like to keep at least one set up for modern hard/heavy tones. Note that there are currently Nickel covered, black uncovered and zebra uncovered. Within each cosmetic, there are 4 variations: Treble pickup at 10K, treble plus at 15K, rhythm pickup at 10K and rhythm underwound at 8K. I think... Read more

Hello, I hope all is well! I am new to Marshal amps and Les Pauls. I am looking for a good Marshall combo amp for club gigs. I really do dig the Plexi sound for more of the Southern Rock/ Blues stuff. Any Suggestions/recommendations? Thank so much!

As I was going through my Jazz Guitar forum posts I came across a discussion on the merits of P4 tuning * tuning in perfect 4ths. Being a Viola~Violin~Mandolin player I've always enjoyed the 5ths tuning for its symmetry Bass is the exception not being really a part of the Viol family it is tuned in 4ths * like electric bass. I play in open tunings Frequently, so I thought I'd take a peek: P4 tuning — also called All Fourths or Perfect 4ths — is a regular guitar tuning where every open... Read more
